Home – School Compact
SY ’09 – ‘10

It is essential that families and schools work together to assist students in the achievement of high
academic standards. Through a process that included teachers, families, students and community
partners, the following is a list of agreed upon roles and responsibilities that we as a team will
implement to support student success in school and beyond.

Goal: By June 2010, Patterson High School will meet or exceed the requirements for Adequate
Yearly Progress targets of 74.1% in reading, 67% in mathematics, and 92% in attendance.

Staff Pledge
I will set high expectations and strive to get all students to meet them.

I will communicate regularly with families about student progress.

I will provide opportunities for students to engage in career/technical studies and to use
technology in academic classrooms.

I will provide varied learning activities to link challenging academic content to real world
applications.
I will base guidance activities on the belief that all students matter and need long term,
personal relationships with adults at the school who will work with them and their parents
to set learning goals and make plans for further education and careers.
I will give clear, detailed instructions and explanations, provide interesting and
challenging lessons and assign meaningful daily homework to extend learning and
provide reinforcement.
I will respect the school, students, staff, community members and families.

Student Pledge
I will come to school on time daily, ready to learn and work hard.

I will bring the necessary materials, completed assignments and home work.

I will communicate regularly with my parents and teachers about my school experiences.

I will limit how much I watch TV and instead study or read every day after school.

I will read several books each year outside of class and complete writing assignments at
least weekly
I will complete science projects, prepare written reports and make oral presentations.

I will respect the school, classmates, staff, community members and families.

Family/Parent Pledge

I will ensure that my child attends school everyday, gets adequate sleep, medical attention
and proper nutrition.

I will participate in school activities such as volunteering or attending School Family


Council Meetings, Parent Conferences or Community School Coordinating Council
meetings.
I will provide a quiet time and place for homework and monitor TV viewing and non school
related computer usage.

I will regularly monitor my child’s progress, performance and attendance.

I will communicate the importance of education and learning to my child.

I will set high expectations for my child and support their efforts to reach them.

I will respect the school, students, staff, community members and families.
