Newly revised technical product

specification (TPS) standard
BS 8888:2013 is the latest revision of the UKs technical product specification standard. It defines the
requirements for the technical specification of products and their component parts. Amongst other
things, it explains the way in which engineering drawings outline and present these specifications.
BS 8888 is the UKs national framework standard aimed at helping
UK industry to move over to the 200 or more ISO standards
on documentation, specification and verification. Previously UK
industry used the former national standard, BS 308, the worlds
first engineering drawing standard (first published 1927).
In 2000, BS 308 was withdrawn and replaced by BS 8888.
The updated and revised edition brings together in one easy-tofollow document, all international standards needed to prepare
technical product specifications (TPS), in accordance with
geometrical product specification principles.
BS 8888 helps you to make better use of the ISO system of product
specification because it covers more than just engineering drawing,
instead you will find all aspects of technical product specification,
including, for instance, the use of 3D CAD models to define
component geometry.
The standard has been revised by TDW/4/8, a TDW/4 subcommittee
set up specifically to deal with the frequent updates and revisions to
the national standard.

Why was BS 8233 produced?
All previous guidance from the government about the planning
system has been superseded. This includes Planning Policy
Guidance (PPG) 24 which helped planners take noise into
account when making decisions about whether to grant
planning permission. This means that both those who are seeking
permission and those who are charged with granting permission
now have no source of guidance about what levels of noise should
be considered to be acceptable in different types of environments.
