ABSTRACT
The use of fossil fuel as a source of energy becomes the cause of
global warming, and buildings are massive energy users). The research
aimed to investigate the application of various energy-saving methods to
minimize he energy usege in the buildings by using LEED (Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design) as the achievement standards.
This was quantitative research with observation and experimental
methods. The research objects or location were the building of Four Points
Hotel in Makassar. The observation was conducted on the building physics
and experiments was carried out on various energy-saving methods by
using the energy simulation of eQuest computer program. The energy
consumption analysis using the eQuest computer program on the building
indicates that the building existing designs Four Points Hotel in Makassar
are in accordance with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) standard. To achieve the LEED standard, the
various treatments are conducted on the energy-saving methods.
After applying the energy-saving methods on the buildings of Four
Points Hotel in Makassar, the building energy consumption decreases
lower than 30,63% from the average building baseline energy
consumption. Then, the application of the methods is as follows: using the
automation system on evaporation system and utilization of AC unit beside
the central AC in the building, using reading/ working lamps in the guest
and office rooms, converting the broad window opening into 20% of the
exterior wall size, using the reflektiv type glass (one-way) and low-e, and
using the shadings with the long measurement calculated 45o from the
window base. By applying the methods, the energy consumption of the
building of Four Points Hotel has been adjusted to the LEED (Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design) standard.
