An integral part of the Networked Energy Services (NES) system,

NES System Software communicates with NES data concentrators
and meters to deliver services and events. The software acts as
an edge or access server into the NES system. It provides a standards-based Web services interface to the utility's enterprise middleware, making it easy to integrate with J2EE, .NET, or other Web
services-aware applications and infrastructure from companies such
as IBM, BEA Systems, Microsoft, Sun, HP, and Oracle. NES System
Software can also directly access the SQL database included with
the middleware.

from customer identifier or meter serial number to a specific meter and the
owning data concentrator(s)
Infrastructure Management

- Provides services to associate data concentrators with transformers and handles

mappings from transformer identifier to data concentrator identifier
- Loads provisioning information into data concentrators
- Loads new firmware images into data concentrators; facilitates the loading of
new firmware images into meters

- Collects meter data from data concentrators into a SQL database
