BURLADA, MY HOMETOWN
Hi
I live in Burlada. This is a town near Pamplona. This is the capital of Navarre and is a
very beautiful town. Pamplona is 1,5kn approximately from Burlada. In Burlada there are 17000
inhabitants more or less and is the fourth town in Navarre. Burlada isn’t very famous, there aren’t
many famous people here, only two: One is Ruben Beloki. He is a “pelotari” but is famous in
Navarre and in Pais Vasco because in Europe and
in the world the ”pelota” isn’t a very famous sport.
The other person is Mateo Garralda and is a
handball player. He won the world cup this year
with Spain and he was playing in Portland San
Antonio team, from Pamplona, but now he plays in
Ademar-Leon team, in Castille.
My mother and father weren’t born in
Burlada, they are from Chantrea. Chantrea is a
small neighbourhood in Pamplona. It is small and
there live my grandfathers and my grand mothers.
It is a very beautiful place but it doesn’t have many
activities to do.
In Burlada, there is a park. This park is big
and there are trees, animals, places to swim and
green zones. The name of is Parque Uranga. Also
there is a green zone, there is the Nogalera (see
photo on the right side)and there are many trees.
Near this it is the Ripas. There is a small mountain
and on top there is a water deposit. From this area
you see Burlada, Villava and Huarte. Also there is
a bridge, it is very old but is beautiful. For this
area passes Arga river. This bridge was built in
the Roman times.
Burlada was a small town. The people
lived in this area because is near Pamplona and they worked in the town. Before Burlada was a
small town but now it isn’t big but it isn’t small either.
In Burlada there are two festivals, one to celebrate San Juan and then another devoted to
the Virgin. In San Juan are the blazes. In this festival the persons jump over the blazes but
sometimes it is impossible because they’re very big. The other festival is in summer, there is
karaoke music… and many activities for the children and for the old people. It is a very beautiful
festival.
Also there are two churches. One is modern but the other is older. One is San Juan’s
church and the other is San Blas’. In Burlada there are any shops, supermarkets… also there are
two sports Centres, one for Hilarion Eslava school and then the other for Ibaialde and
Askatasuna schools. In Burlada there are 4 schools and the other is the Basque school. Also there
are 2 different institutes. One is in Basque and the other in Spanish.
