1 SUMMARY
We have managed to put together some simulation codes for different blocks in
our Digital Television (DTV) Simulation. Our finished portion of the transmitter
contains the formatting, source encoding, channel encoding, multiplexing, pulse
modulating, and band-pass modulation blocks. Aside from using PCM for analog
to digital conversion, we would use PWM. Also, we chose to replace MUSICAM
coding to Huffman due to the complexity of MUSICAM coders. Regarding the
insertion of Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and checking of Bit Error Rate
(BER), it is not complete and we are currently working on it as well as the receiver
side of the project.

2 DIGITAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

The simulation would include a DTV system which would use a Huffman encoder
and decoder for the source coding, a Reed-Solomon channel encoder and
decoder for the checking. Lastly, it would be using Amplitude-Shift Keying (ASK)
for the modulation scheme. The simulation would only focus on transmitting the
audio signal, since it is the part where the simulator is familiar of. Thus, only the
formatting, source encoding and decoding, along with the channel encoding and
decoding of a system will be simulated. Bit error rate would also be measured.

Analog data is converted to digital by PWM format.

The Huffman encoder represents symbols in as few bits of possible by
using the probability of it being used.

Reed-Solomon Encoder will be used as the algorithm to detect errors

in the system

Amplitude Shift Keying will be the digital modulation to be used. The

binary information signal directly modulates the amplitude of an analog
carrier.

Amplitude Shift keying demodulator would demodulate the received

signal.

Reed-Solomon Decoder removes the bits added for error correction at

the transmitter side.

Huffman decoder recovers the original digitally quantized signal

received.
2.2 Performance
Bit error performance will be measured by checking the data at the receiver which
has already passed by the channel which introduces additive white Gaussian
noise.

3 SIMULATION
Describe the procedures for simulating the correct behavior and outcome of your
digital communication system. Include the information that you need to gather and
how you have obtained or have measured it/them.

4 PERFORMANCE
Describe the metric for evaluating your digital communication system. Include the
plots of the metric that you have obtained.
