A narrative essay

Peer pressure and the effects it has had to me

It was great struggle being a single mother of five. My kids, Antonio eighteen, Cammie thirteen,
Caitlyn twelve, Karlos eight and Bella six are all under my care. My salary is sufficient to
provide for their food, cloths, school fees and other things they needed and I had to make sure
that they live a comfortable and stress free life. My daughter Cammie, thirteen, is a gorgeous
African American girl that comes from ancestors of a mixed race. Therefore, she is not liked by
many young ladies and so she tries to be cool instead of the smart girl she is and struggles in
finding. She had joined the company of another naughty named Marry, who I believe was a bad
influence to her. Her friend marry used to pressure her to do wrong things.
On the night of fourth October, I went to bed early as usual following the days hard work. My
daughter Cammie and her best friend Marry were seated in the study room, and any other person
would have assumed that they were doing some homework. Little did I know that they were
waiting for me to get into bed so that they could get access to my car. Karlos and Bella are
watching cartoons in the sitting room as usual, and both Antonio and Caitlyn are asleep.
I remember it was twenty minutes past midnight. I was awaken from my deep sleep by a phone
call. A new number. Hello, am Mr. Jos a police officer. Am calling from Jordan hospital, your
daughter Cammie was just involved in fatal accident, please rush to the hospital. At first I
thought I was dreaming. I get out my bed hastily, dress up quickly to respond to the police call. I
rush to Cammies bedroom to confirm she is not there, and my doubts are proved wrong. She
was not there. In disbelief, I tried to reach for the key of my car, I could not find it. Had I
misplaced it? Oh no. that one I was sure. I got out of the house, and my car was neither at the

garage. I knew something crazy had happened. Cammie had been learning how to drive using
my car, but she had not known how to drive completely. I had on several occasions denied her
the car to hang out with her friends, because I knew it was dangerous for her.
Marry, Cammies best friend came to my mind. She must have been the cause of all this. She had
been pressurizing Cammie to get my car so that they could hang out together, as she had access
to her mothers car although she is older than Cammie and had a driving license for she had be
trained on driving. I should never have presumed her presence in my house that night. But how
would I know that they were spying for my car.
I had to get the best alternative to get me to the hospital, determined to see Cammie. i contacted a
taxi operator and within a short while, I was at Jordan Hospital. I could not believe my eyes
when I saw Cammie dumped in a bloody bed. She was unconscious, with a swollen face and
bloody hands. The doctors informed me that she had a bone fracture on her left limb, and had
sustained minor injuries on the face and the back. As I watched her lie there, drops tears fell from
my face. Had I failed as a parent on the duty of care for my children? The doctors consoled me
that she was in a good condition and that she would recover after a short while.
Police officers informed me that my daughter had been involved in head-on collision with
another car, and she was the driver of the car. The driver of the other car had been critically
injured and admitted in the hospital. I was told that two other ladies had been arrested at the
scene of the accident for negligence of traffic rules, and had claimed to be Cammies friends. I
was escorted by the police officers to the police station to record a statement about the incidence,
since it was my daughter who had been involved in an accident with my car. I then found out that
the other ladies arrested were Cammies friend Marry and her other friend.

Two days later, Cammie was discharged from hospital as she was getting well. We were then
summoned to the court for charges on the accident that had been caused by recklessness. It came
out that on the night of accident, Marry had convinced Cammie to take my car after I had fallen
asleep. Marry and her friend had each a car, borrowed from their parents. Cammie had taken my
car and went out with her friends each with their own car when she met the deadly accident.
Now I watch my daughter Cammie as she recovers from the trauma of the accident and faces
juvenile court charges. My daughter is a victim of peer pressure, something I never really
discussed with my kids in-depth because I didnt know that it would be a major issue. In so many
words I feel that I failed in some way as a parent because my daughter is extremely smart book
wise, but I didnt instill any street smarts in my kids. I automatically assumed because my kids
are smart that they would just know better.
