PROJECT OVERVIEW
As a summer intern in the accounting department for Dixon Homestead Library, you offered to
help with their summer library programs. As part of their community outreach, each summer the
library provides book groups, movie nights, field trips, film screenings, and story hours. With
budgets stretched to the limit, you need to create charts to analyze the success of each program,
based on enrollment, to see which should be continued next year.

Instructions
1. Open the file IL_Excel2010_UD_IC1b_FirstLastName_1.xlsx and save the file as
IL_Excel2010_UD_IC1b_FirstLastName_2.xlsx before you move to the next step. Verify
that your name appears in cell B4 of the Documentation sheet. (Note: Do not edit the
Documentation sheet. If your name does not appear in cell B4, please download a new copy
of the start file from the SAM Web site.)
2. Switch to the Sheet1 worksheet. Create a 3-D Clustered Column chart for the data in the
range A1:G6. Move and resize the chart so the upper-left corner is in cell A8 and the lowerright corner is in cell H26.
3. From the Chart Styles gallery, apply the Style 42 chart style to the chart.
4. Change the fill color of the Film Screening data series in the chart to theme color Orange,
Accent 6.
5. Enter Dixon Homestead Library Programs as the chart title (Above Chart).
6. Make the chart title more visually attractive by applying a shape outline color of White,
Background 1, Darker 25% and a Glow shape effect of Blue, 8 pt glow, Accent color 1.
7. Enter Number of Patrons as the vertical axis title (Rotated Title).
8. Enter Types of Programs as the horizontal axis title (Title Below Axis).
9. Create a Pie in 3-D chart using the non-adjacent ranges A1:A6 and G1:G6. Move and resize
the chart as necessary so the upper-left corner is in cell J3 and the lower-right corner is in cell
Q26. Apply the Style 42 chart style to the chart. Explode the Story Hour pie slice by 40% for
emphasis. Change the chart title to June Attendance. To enhance the chart title, apply a
shape outline color of Tan, Background 2 and a Glow shape effect of Red, 8 pt glow,
Accent color 2.
10. Create a 3-D Area chart using the data in the range A1:G6. Move and resize the chart so the
upper-left corner is in cell B27 and the lower-right corner is in cell Q47. Add the X-axis title
Programs below the x-axis. Add the chart title above the chart and change the title to
Library Programs. To enhance the chart title, apply a shape outline color of Black, Text 1,
Lighter 35% and a Glow shape effect of Olive Green, 5 pt glow, Accent color 3.
Your worksheet should look like the Final Figure below. Save your changes, close the workbook
and exit Excel. Follow the directions on the SAM Web site to submit your completed project.
