MEDIA RELEASE
ENGAGING PEOPLE GLOBALLY
The livestock export industry is built on the people behind it and to celebrate that fact, this years
national industry conference, LIVEXchange, will focus on the theme of People, Perspectives and
Relationships.
Throughout the conference, which will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre on 25-26
November, the topics discussed will highlight the people that work within the industry, the
importance of each of their roles and the strong relationships built throughout the supply chain.
CEO of the Australian Livestock Exporters Council Alison Penfold says the success of the livestock
export industry and its ongoing growth relies on each person within the supply chain.
The livestock export industry holds great significance for many people and regions of Australia, and
many countries worldwide. In this years conference program we highlight these contributions with
a wide variety of topics and speakers, Ms Penfold says.
LIVEXchange will host a number of international speakers, including the livestock handling expert Dr
Temple Grandin and the World Organisation for Animal Health and Welfare director general Dr
Bernard Vallat.
Joining the keynote speaker list is Iain Mars, the Chief Operating Officer for Brasil Beef, Minerva
Foods.
Mr Mars is the former CEO of JBS Australia, formers MLA Board Director and has held numerous
roles across the globe in the meat industry having first started his association with the Australian
meat industry in 1984 with W. Angliss Co.
Mr Mars presentation will focus on giving a view from another country and what his expectations
are for the future.
Representatives from the Indonesian Government and within the Indonesian supply chain will be
part of a question and answer session on what is being done to meet demands and capture
opportunities in that market.
Peter Schuster of Schuster Consulting will give a presentation on the Livestock Global Assurance
Program (LGAP), which is currently being piloted in-market. Mr Schuster will discuss how LGAP will
help animal welfare and the continuous process to improvement.

Ms Penfold says there will be something for everyone on the LIVEXchange program.
LIVEXchange will give stakeholders and the public a clear vision of where the livestock export
industry is at in terms of animal welfare and research and developemt, and the improvements which
are continuing in animal welfare and market access, she says.
There is also plenty of networking and catch up opportunities, with The Coopers Sundowner
Welcome BBQ and Drinks to be held at the Northern Territory Parliament House on the first night
and the industry Gala Dinner with guest speaker Shane Jacobson on the second and last night.
There are a variety of accommodation options for conference delegates and a number of
accommodation providers are offering registered conference delegates a special rate for a limited
time, which can be booked at the same time as registering attendance at LIVEXchange.
LIVEXchange is a partnership between LiveCorp, Australian Livestock Exporters Council (ALEC) and
the Northern Territory Livestock Exporters Association (NTLEA).
