20 October 2015
Welcome back to term 4, and an especially warm welcome to the new families that have joined our
school community.
This is shaping up to be an eventful term. The most anticipated event on the school calendar is the
Year 6 Graduation. North Albany Senior High School has been working closely with us and the
students preparing them for the transition to high school next year. The Year 6 teachers, Mr Swann
and Ms Jones are working hard preparing the students for the Graduation Ceremony to take place
Tuesday 15 December 9.00am in the School Hall.
Additionally, coming up is the Faction Athletics Carnival followed by the Interschool Athletics
Carnival. Again teachers are working hard preparing the students for these two events ensuring
they are well prepared to participate to the best of their ability.
Protecting Children on Line: Australian children, parents and guardians have a place to report
serious online bullying following the official launch of the Office of the Childrens eSafety
Commissioner. The office has established a cyber-bullying complaints system, backed by
legislation, to quickly remove online material that is harmful to children from social media sites.

for December/January programs are now open. It is important for every child to learn to swim and
develop essential water safety skills. VacSwims school holiday swimming programs are conducted
by qualified instructors who teach children the skills to be confident swimmers and safe in the water.
This year there has been a small price increase from $10.00 per enrolment to $12.50 per enrolment
(family enrolment for three or more children living at the same address is now $34.50). For further

Together We Can Empower and Protect

I have had the amazing pleasure over the past two and a half terms to be allowed to share my skills and knowledge to teach
every single child the Protective Behaviours messages. This provides important and vital information that our children will
take and use for the rest of their lives. I would like to offer two parent sessions to let you know what we have been doing
and also the words and skills to be able to carry out these important messages at your home and within your networks.

Wednesday October 28th 5.30pm to 7.30pm in the School Staffroom.

Monday November 2nd 9.00am to 11.00am Room 10

Please sign the slip below and return to the office if you would like to attend a session.

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to
follow directions or face increased consequences.
Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts.
For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences
apply ~

Bullying is when a student or group

keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally.
The
behaviour
is
deliberate and repeated.

STEP 1
Student refuses to follow directions.
Verbal warning.
STEP 2
Student still refuses to follow directionsIn-class consequence e.g. Time Out
STEP 3
Student still refuses to follow directionsOut-of-class consequence e.g. Buddy
Class.
STEP 4
Student still refuses to follow directionsRED CARD is sent to the office.
Parents will be requested to attend
school.

SUSPENSION
Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

RE-ENTRY FOLLOWING
SUSPENSION
Students returning from
suspension must be
accompanied by an adult and
will attend the Intervention
Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.

A fight or disagreement between

equal students is not bullying.
HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to

ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
Do not be a by-stander; if you
witness bullying try to stop it or
report it.
IF YOU ARE BULLYING

Step 1: Warning
Step 2: In school isolation and
counselling at recess and lunch,
parents will be notified
Step 3:
For continued breaches
students will be suspended.
