A Note from the Pastor

This week has been an interesting week in Southern
Baptist life. The International Mission Board (IMB) is
experiencing a shortage of missionaries and finances.
They recently announced a reduction in missionaries and
staff in their efforts to make up for budget shortfalls.
These cuts will be implemented through natural attrition
and through opportunities for early voluntary
retirements. You can find all the details of the plan on
the IMB.org website. The real question is what does this
have to do with us?
As I see it, there are two main issues with one common
solution discipleship. SBC churches support the IMB
through our regular giving to the cooperative program
and the special Lottie Moon Christmas offering.
Churches also act as the seed-bed in which future
missionaries grow. As a church, if we want to see our
mission efforts increased we must take discipleship
seriously.
As we reach Hueytown, it is our duty to train new
believers and young believers in godly stewardship
principles through our words and deeds. This includes
encouraging people to give faithfully to the church which
supports mission efforts across the globe. There is more
to discipleship than financial stewardship. We should
also encourage surrender realizing that God has called
missionaries from among us before and He may be
calling today. We should personally listen for and
surrender to Gods call, and we should train new
believers to do the same.
I do not believe that we have a money problem or a
missionary problem. I do believe that we have a
discipleship problem, and as we obey the Great
Commission and make disciples here in Hueytown we
will see everything else fall into place.

someone with you and come expecting great things from
God. Great things are happening at PRBC!
