Guardian has a divisional structure. A divisional structure is made up of separate, semi-autonomous units or
divisions. The company is made up of several departments. This company goal is to be the largest in security
and home technology, which they have achieved. There vision statement is "we are there when you need us the
most" which does not fit them very well.
When the customers call, because of all the different departments, it is hard for them to get the services they
are needing. Customers get passed between the departments very often. If I could change the design of the
company, I would combine some of the departments to make it easier for our customers to get the assistance
they are needing. There needs to be two main department, Builder and Residential. Now those departments are
spread out into several smaller departments which makes it hard for the call center to know where the customer
needs to be sent for assistance.

Imitation Organizational Strategy

Robbins & Judge state hybrid, or imitation organizational strategy is a mix of

loose with tight properties; tight controls over current activities and looser
controls for new undertakings (2013). Based on this my current company,
Wells Fargo, has an organizational strategy of imitation.
Obviously being a public financial institution that is heavily regulated there are
a lot of tight controls. However, we are encouraged to innovate, and be
creative within given parameters. I personally did not work on the mobile
deposit that one can now do with their smartphone, but this would be an
example of innovation while maintaining tight controls.

Small businesses frequently structure the company around specific job functions. This kind of business structure works for
companies that feature a limited number of products or services and therefore have fewer production requirements than a large
corporation. By definition a mechanistic organization is characterized by extensive departmentalization, high formalization,
a limited information network, and centralization. An organic organization structure is flat, uses cross-hierarchical and
cross-functional teams, has low formalization, possesses a comprehensive information network, and relies on participative
decision making.
Based off these two definitions I believe the company I currently work for is a mixture of the two,
organic and mechanistic.
StaffMasters, being that they are a smaller staffing company tends to be more involved in the day to
day process from the owner
and other corporate directors. It comes off more as micro-managing which would fall closely to the
organic structure without boundaries. The company tends to try and be structured in certain situations
but fails because of the micro-managing ways.
