QWEST FIELD
The Seahawks dropped their first home opener since 2002 in an overtime loss to the San Francisco
49ers. After 49ers kicker Joe Nedney tied the game 30-30 on a 28-yard field goal with 2:42 remaining,
he then missed a 41-yarder as time expired in regulation for the win. However, the 49ers won the over-
time coin toss and drove the ball 57 yards setting up Nedney’s game-winning kick from 40 yards away.
Seattle jumped on top 14-0 following a Julius Jones’ 27-yard TD run and a Craig Terrill fumble recovery. Nedney tacked on two
of his five field goals to pull the Niners within 14-6. Following an Olindo Mare 51-yard field goal for the Seahawks, 49ers QB
J.T. O’Sullivan connected with Bryant Johnson on a 3-yard TD pass to pull within 17-13. As time expired in the first half, Mare
tacked on a 38-yard field goal to give Seattle a 20-13 lead. The Niners turned the tide in the third quarter taking a 27-20 lead.
Patrick Willis returned a deflected Matt Hasselbeck pass 86 yards for a touchdown. After another Hasselbeck interception off
of a deflection, Frank Gore capped a San Francisco TD drive with a 2-yard run. Seattle pieced together a TD drive that ended
with a 1-yard T.J. Duckett run that tied the game 27-27 with 14:20 remaining in the 4th quarter. Mare put the Seahawks up 30-
27 with his third field goal of the day, only to have Nedney tie and eventually win the game in overtime. Seattle’s defense reg-
istered eight sacks and limited Frank Gore to 61 yards on 19 carries (3.2 avg.).
