Purpose of job
To lead the implementation of the DFID-funded Nigeria Stability & Reconciliation Programme (NSRP),
ensuring successful delivery of the programmes outputs.

Context and Environment


The British Council, in partnership with International Alert and Social Development Direct, is the
Managing Agent for the 30m+ DFID-funded Nigeria Stability & Reconciliation Programme. This new,
high profile and ambitious programme aims to support Nigerian stakeholders (state and non-state) to
prevent and manage conflict non-violently, reducing the negative impacts of conflict and violence on the
most vulnerable. The Programme is engaging across 8 states in the North East, North West, Middle
Belt and the Niger Delta, to:

Strengthen conflict prevention and management architecture

Address underlying drivers of conflict

Increase effective participation by women and girls in peacebuilding

Strengthen conflict-sensitive approaches to policy & programming in Nigeria

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties


The Programme Manager is accountable for: (1) delivery of the Programmes technical outputs and
results to DFIDs satisfaction; and (2) for the financial management of the Programme to DFID and
British Council corporate standards.
The Programme Manager is responsible for: leading the programme delivery team (technical and
managerial, approximately 40 staff based in Abuja and five programme locations); managing the
programme offices, including resources; the oversight of robust M&E; and the effective implementation
of programme safety and security plans and protocols. The Programme Manager will serve as the
Programmes key point of contact for DFID, local partners and other relevant stakeholders.

The main duties include:


1. Provide overall strategic direction in consultation with DFID
2. Leading the programme delivery team in the implementation & monitoring of all programme
activities
3. Leading the programmes security management function and taking decisions on team
movements
4. Lead the preparation of work plans, technical reports and monitoring & evaluation reports
5. Oversee and contribute substantially to the M&E and learning strategy & framework
6. Oversight of project finances, grants management and for value-for-money (VFM) strategy
7. Oversee recruitment and performance management of programme staff and consultants
8. Line management of programme senior management team
9. Relationship & stakeholder management, including Federal Government, DFID, & donors
10. Develop, maintain and regularly update risk management strategy including safety and security
11. Lead on communications, publicity and visibility of NSRP with Nigerian media

Other important features or requirements of the job


The position will require extensive travel to the States & Regions of NSRP operations, including insecure
regions, subject to the prevailing travel and security policy implemented by NSRP. Unsocial and overhours are likely to be required to meet operational requirements of the post / project.
