OMEGA XL
How OmegaXL can improve customers lives!
Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids and How They Promote Health
Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid that are increasingly believed
to play an important role in promoting good health. Our bodies need Omega-3s for numerous
functions, such as controlling blood clotting and helping build cell membranes in the brain. Our
bodies cannot make Omega-3s, so we must get them through certain types of food like: fish,
walnuts, flaxseeds, beans, and olive oil. Our bodies work their best when the ratios of omega6
and omega3 fatty acids are close to 1 to 1. The western diet that most of our customers grow up
with is very rich in omega 6 fatty acids. Most customers eating a traditional western diet are
consuming a ratio close to 15 to 1 omega6 to omega3 fatty acids. This imbalance has been shown
to contribute to the body producing a damaging inflammatory response.
In our country, most of the beef, chicken, pork, and even fish that we consume is fed with
corn based feed instead of the natural diets they have eaten for hundreds of years. Most farmed
animals are not getting any green plant based food they are meant to eat. Studies have shown that
animals that are not given their proper diet have significantly lower levels of Omega 3s in their
meat. A lot of customers who eat a healthy low fat diet are still not getting a healthy balance of
Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids. Most of the fish our customers eat are farm raised, which
contain a significantly lower amount of Omega 3s. Certain methods of preparing fish can also
affect the Omega 3 content.
The Cell Membrane
The smallest and most important parts of our body, the cells, are surrounded by a cell membrane.
This membrane is composed mainly of fatty acids. The cellular membrane has a vital role in the
cell's life, as it allows nutrients into the cell. In the same manner, it allows the quick removal of
cell waste products. The cell membrane has to have integrity and be flexible to permit these
substance changes. If the cell's membrane loses its integrity, it will not be able to hold water and
nutrients. The cellular membrane allows for communication between cells, keeping body organs
in good shape. If the membrane begins to lose its integrity, the cell will not be able to
communicate with other cells. Scientists believe that one of the factors that favor the rapid
growth of cancerous tumors is the loss of inter-cellular communication. There is a close
relationship between the types of fat we eat and the integrity and fluidity of cell membranes. The
cell membrane is made up of fats. There are two types of fats, the omega 3 fatty acids and the
saturated/hydrogenated fats (like the ones in many fast foods). One of the differences between
Product Information by training (Adam Armaganian) Revised 10/1

Page 3

the two types of fats is the way they behave at room temperature: the omega 3 fats are liquid in
these conditions, while the hydrogenated fats are solid. Due to this reason, if you eat foods with
many saturated fats for a long period of time, chances are that your cell membranes will be
harder and will lack fluidity, whereas a diet rich in omega 3 fatty acids will lead to more fluid
cells membranes.

The key omega3 fatty acids DHA and EPA as well as an array of other essential fatty
acids have been shown to benefit the body in numerous ways and help manage inflammation in
the body. Supplementing diets with omega3 essential fatty acids (DHA and EPA) has been
associated with:
1. Supporting joint health and flexibility
2. Supplementing diets with Omeaga3s has been shown to support joint health in people
with arthritis
3. Reduce risk of cardiovascular disease
a. EPA and DHA have been shown to promote overall health and well-being,
including helping to maintain blood pressure and cholesterol levels in normal
range
b. Omega3s help to promote healthy triglyceride levels
4. Promote heart health
5. Promote joint mobility
6. Supports Brain Health
a. Supports a positive mood
b. Support and promote mood elevation and emotional well-being
7. Supports respiratory health
As with any supplement, we suggest you consult your health care provider as to the
appropriateness of taking Omega XL for your particular health condition.

What is Inflammation
Inflammation is the bodys normal defense mechanism against many adverse medical
conditions such as high blood pressure, clotting of the arteries and joint stiffness. Inflammation is
very important for the body to protect itself. Normally inflammation is self regulating and
resolves itself without causing damage to the body. A lot of conditions involve a damaging
amount of inflammation due to a variety of factors. Scientists have found a link between omega
3 EPA and DHA fatty acid consumption and inflammation. Scientists believe that omega3s DHA
and EPA help the body maintain its natural anti- inflammatory state.

What is OMEGA XL
Omega XL is made from the New Zealand green lipped mussel sourced from the pristine, pure
waters off the coast of New Zealand. Omega XL has 30 essential fatty acids offering a unique
combination, including DHA and EPA. There is no commercial development in or around these
waters and New Zealand represents some of the most natural and purest waters on Earth. Clean
and unpolluted. The NZGLM is grown in environmentally pristine conditions, in waters
regulated by the New Zealand marine authority. The mussels are harvested after 18 months
limiting the risk of toxin development. Mussels are grown on vines never touching the ocean
floor. The oil used in Omega XL is manufactured using a patented process to maximize the
levels of Omega 3 from the GLM. Research suggests that plant based Omega 3 products, such as
flax seed and ALA products, do not fully convert to DHA and EPA and are not as efficient as
marine based Omega 3 products. New Zealand climate includes high UV rays from the sun due
to the ozone layer being so thin in that part of the world. As a result, the plankton and other
marine life in these waters have developed high levels of antioxidants to survive the high UV.
The plankton are the food for the NZGLM and the mussel acts as a carrier of these high
antioxidants. Once harvested, the mussels are removed from the waters and delivered on barges
within two hours to refrigerated conditions to maintain freshness- our product is controlled from
water to capsule- some products are made from fish that travel great distances on boat before
reaching processing. The mussels are then processed in a clean state of the art facility using the
patented technology to extract the benefits of the GLM and convert it into the oil contained in
Omega XL-.No other Omega 3 product actively marketed in the US today is made using this
patented technology. Over 25 years of research on the oil used in Omega XL has been
undertaken to support that it is a quality Omega 3 supplement that can be used safely, every day
to support good health. Its the same as brushing your teeth- something we do every day.
Green Lipped mussels get their omega 3s directly from plankton. Fish, like salmon,
consume smaller fish or krill that consume the plankton. This is why the Green Lipped Mussel
has such a high Omega 3 content. Fish also can absorb industrial contaminates (like mercury) by
eating smaller fish. Green lipped mussels are grown in some of the cleanest waters in the world.

The following is a summary of certain diseases and research surrounding

Omega3s. These studies are not intended to suggest that Omega3 fatty acids
can treat or cure these diseases.

Joint Health Associated With Arthritic Conditions

Arthritis effects up to 50 million people in the United States

Arthritis can cause people to suffer from a long list of debilitating side effects

Arthritis is a very debilitating joint disease that affects up to 50 million people, most of them
elderly. This inflammatory disorder affects the joints and adjacent tissues. This inflammation
leads to pain, stiffness, cracking, joint enlargement, causing even more inflammation. This
disease can affect other parts of the body such as muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, as well as
some internal organs.
Rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a long-term disease that leads to inflammation of the joints and surrounding
tissues. It can also affect other organs.

Omega XL is an Omega 3 product that supports joint health in people with arthritis.
Omega XL is an Omega 3 product that Improves joint mobility and supports joint
health.

How Omega-3s help

Most clinical studies examining omega-3 fatty acid supplements for arthritis have focused on rheumatoid
arthritis (RA), an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints. A number of small studies
have found that omega-3s help improve joint pain and morning stiffness.
Laboratory studies suggest that diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids (and low in the inflammatory omega-6
fatty acids) may help people with osteoarthritis, although more study is needed.

Cardiovascular Health
The Food and Drug Administration has determined that there is supportive, but not conclusive,
scientific evidence that suggests a reduction in coronary heart disease as a result of eating foods and
dietary supplements rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) Omega 3
fatty acids.

Heart Issues
High cholesterol Omega 3s Have

High cholesterol affects 42 million Americans, and 63 million more have borderline
high cholesterol

People who follow a Mediterranean-style diet tend to have higher HDL or good cholesterol levels,
which help promote heart health. Inuit Eskimos, who get high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids from eating
fatty fish, also tend to have increased HDL cholesterol and decreased triglycerides (fats in the blood).
Several studies have shown that omega-3 supplements reduce triglyceride levels.

Several clinical studies suggest that diets or supplements rich in omega-3 fatty acids lower blood pressure
in people with hypertension. An analysis of 17 clinical studies using omega-3 supplements found that
taking them daily may reduce blood pressure in people with untreated hypertension.

Heart disease

Heart disease accounts for over 20% of the total deaths in the United States
More than 15 million people have some form of the condition in the United States

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a narrowing of the small blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to
the heart. CHD is also called coronary artery disease.
Chest pain or discomfort (angina) is the most common symptom. You feel this pain when the heart is not
getting enough blood or oxygen. How bad the pain is varies from person to person.
One of the best ways to help prevent heart disease is to eat a diet low in saturated fat and to eat foods that
are rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (including omega-3 fatty acids). Clinical evidence
suggests that EPA and DHA (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, two of the omega-3 fatty
acids found in omegaXL) help reduce risk factors for heart disease, including high cholesterol and high
blood pressure. Omega-3s has been shown to lower levels of triglycerides (fats in the blood), and to
lower risk of death, heart attack, stroke, and abnormal heart rhythms in people who have already had a
heart attack. Omega-3s also appears to help prevent and treat atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
by slowing the development of plaque and blood clots, which can clog arteries.
Large population studies suggest that getting omega-3 fatty acids in the diet, primarily from fish, helps
protect against stroke caused by plaque buildup and blood clots in the arteries that lead to the brain.
Eating at least 2 servings of fish per week can reduce the risk of stroke by as much as 50%.

High Triglyceride

At least 171 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes, or 2.8% of the
population
Diabetes has been described as "America's largest healthcare epidemic."
Diabetes affects more than 20 million Americans. Over 40 million Americans have
prediabetes (early type 2 diabetes).

People with diabetes often have high triglyceride and low HDL levels. Omega-3 fatty acids can help
lower triglycerides and apoproteins (markers of diabetes), and raise HDL, so eating foods or taking
Omega 3s supplements may help people with diabetes.

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

4.7 percent of American adults are estimated to live with ADHD.

ADHD affecting about 3% to 5% of children globally and diagnosed in about 2% to
16% of school aged children.

Children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may have low levels of certain essential
fatty acids (including EPA and DHA). A clinical study shows that those with lower levels of omega-3
fatty acids had more learning and behavioral problems (such as temper tantrums and sleep disturbances)
than boys with normal omega-3 fatty acid levels.
More research is needed, but eating foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids is a reasonable approach
for someone with ADHD.

Macular Degeneration AMD (a serious age-related eye condition that can progress to blindness)

Macular degeneration can make it difficult or impossible to read or recognize faces

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of visual loss in older adults, has limited
therapeutic options. A study has shown patients with intermediate risk of AMD or advanced AMD in one
eye should consider taking Omega -3 type supplements. Observational studies have also suggested benefit
from increased dietary intake of macular xanthophylls and omega-3 fatty acids. These are currently being
evaluated prospectively in a randomized controlled clinical trial..

Muscle Mass (elderly or even athletes)

Omega-3 fatty acids have a positive effect on the metabolism of muscle proteins. Supplementing
Omega-3s has been shown to reduce the rate of muscle and bone loss during periods of
inactivity. This could be applicable to body-builders and other athletes during breaks in training
or layoffs due to injury, during which muscle loss could be significant. Muscle wasting is also a
factor for arthritis sufferers. Thinning bones render the elderly especially vulnerable to fractures
