Volume 18
30 October 2015
From Room 16
We are having a great second semester with lots of art, craft, sport,
cooking, dancing and music, as well as maths, reading and writing. Several
parents helped us with some yummy cookery lessons and we learnt a little
about the great Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, which resulted in the class
painting `Picasso`s Dog`. Last term we read the classic story of Treasure Island and made model
sailing ships. Then we read Rowan of Rin and, with the help of a parent, we built the mountain that
Rowan climbed. The highlight so far though, has been preparing and then performing our assembly.
The theme was `Countries of the World` and Room 16 students will tell you about it.
Everyone studied a different country and Mrs McIntosh worked with us in ICT to carry out research
and produce a book on our Ipads. Brodie.
We stayed with the theme and had a fun time making our assembly. Angela.
I studied South Africa and found out that the first heart transplant was carried out by Dr Christian
Barnaard, in Capetown in 1967. Latraigh.
I studied the Philippines . We created two dances, the Salsa and Las Corolenas. It was unique. Eliza.
We made flags and masks to represent the countries such as Egypt, Germany, Switzerland and the
Philippines. Ella.
My favourite part was when I was the drummer and Samuel played guitar in the Salsa dance. Quinn.
The most enjoyable part for me was when I was playing the guitar. Samuel.
I really enjoyed speaking about Angola. William.
My favourite part was the Mexican Hat Dance because it was Brodie, Bella and me. Ashleigh.
I loved the Mexican Hat Dance in the Salsa movement. James.
I liked the music with the maracas. I was one of the players and Toby was a great leader. Shaun.
The maracas players made the dance amazing. Emily.

I really liked it when Sam, Quinn, Latraigh and James,
marched out as the military. Bella.
My favourite part was the military march. Trent.
My favourite was the Salsa because I played the trumpet with
Nicole and James. Angela.
The trumpeters in the Salsa ! Tyler.
The Salsa was fun because the band kept rhythm and didn`t
lose it. Lucas.
I enjoyed the `Did You Know ?` section and Las Coronelas
because I really like dancing. Julianna.
I really liked the Salsa dance because I was second on with
Julianna. Bonny.
For me, the best bit was Las Coronelas when we did the turns in and out. Zohar.
So there we have it. We hope you enjoyed our assembly. We want to give a big thank you to the
councillors who always do a great job at assemblies, our terrific parents and caregivers, and Mr
McLean and Mr Fisher for their help with the music.
