C.A.S.A.
Did you know that in 2014 there were 191 children from Van Zandt
County in the foster care system due to abuse and neglect? These
children are often overlooked and can get lost in that system. Court
Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) provides committed
volunteers who will take the time to know them and advocate for
their needs. In just a few hours a month you can make a difference
in the life of a child. There will be a New CASA Volunteer Training in
Canton, Texas on December 1, 3, 8, and 10, 2015 from 9:00 am to 1:00
pm. If you have a heart for children and want to know more, contact
Kathy Clark at 903-597-7725 or kclark@casaforkidsofet.org.

A Reason for Gratitude

While it is
always a good time to
focus on the blessings of
our lives, this seems to be
the time of year when we
are more intentional
about being thankful.
Many people will post
their reasons for gratitude
on social media each day
in November. I think that
is a great discipline,
though admittedly I will
not practice it. Being
intentionally grateful
tends to increase our joy
in life. As I look at the
Sundays of November and
our focus for worship, it
brings to my mind a few
things for which I give
thanks.
November 1 is
All Saints Day, a time
when we remember those
who have finished their
course in faith and now
rest in
(cont. on pg. 6)

Did you know that by taking a

moment to cut out a label from
some of your grocery items our
local schools can receive money
to obtain items they need? Simply look for the
Box Tops for Education label found on a variety
of products (i.e., cereals, paper products, office/
school supplies, produce, clothing, etc.), cut
out the label, drop it at the church office, and
our local schools will receive $0.10 per box top!

The Youth Group meets every Wednesday

night, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. This year,
they are starting a band! Come join us for the
fun, fellowship and FOOD (dinner is served
each Wednesday!)

K5 Kids Choir & K5 Kids

are off to a great start!
Join us on Wednesdays
for choir, then stay for

Youth Service Project
Our Youth Group is looking for ways to serve
our congregation with possible service
projects. If you have any small jobs you may
need done, please contact Jerry Don Huff 214458-2004. Thank you all for your support!
Donations Welcomed
The Youth are looking for donations of soda to
help fill their machine in the
Deen Building. If you would like
to help, please bring some of the
following: Coke, Diet Coke, Coke
Zero, A&W Root Beer, Sprite,
Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and/or Diet Dr.
Pepper. Your support is greatly
appreciated.

Food Drive
We are sponsoring
the Middle School back
pack program once
again. This vital
program sends
backpacks filled with
food home each
weekend with
students in need.
Items should be easily
opened and consumed
by a child (nothing requiring a can opener).
Small containers and single-servings are
helpful, as well. I was hungry, and you gave
me food. (Matthew 25:35)

Methodist Day School

October Methodist Day School
We now have 74 children enrolled.
Because of some vandalism, the day school has been advised by the trustees to park the church
bus under the awning between the Sowers building and the church. A police report was made and
a glass company has ordered glass for the bus.
Our Day School participated in Boo on the Bricks by doing Trunk or Treat, October 31 in
downtown Wills Point. They had their fall party October 30 at 10:30. Their Thanksgiving celebration
will be November 18.
Supper Club Fellowship
Supper Club is a ministry of Russell Memorial
that provides an opportunity for building
relationships. A group of around 8-10 will
gather in the home of a church member, share
a meal, then a time of relaxing fellowship. In
the past we have arranged Supper Club
gatherings during select months in the autumn
and spring. We are working to arrange a round
of Supper Club gatherings in November, so stay
tuned for more info. If you would like to learn
more about supper club, please call Marylin
Roddy at 972-551-2152 or call the church office.

(cont. from pg. 1) the presence of Christ. Remembering their lives may bring sadness, and
for good reason. Not only have they been deeply loved by those closest to them, they have also
been deeply appreciated for the ways in which they have pointed us toward Christ. I am thankful
for the many saints of God who have helped to keep me on the path of faith. Perhaps you will take
some time to remember those who have done the same for you.
November 8 is United Methodist Women Sunday, and the women will be leading the
worship services. Betty McCormick will be bringing the message that day, and she always provides
good spiritual meat for our nourishment. I am very thankful for the women of the church, who for
many generations have provided faithful leadership and service for the Kingdom. It will be a great
blessing to have them lead our worship.
Veterans Day comes this month, and we will celebrate it in worship on November 15.
We will honor veterans during the worship services and give thanks for those who serve on behalf
of our country. (If you don't know the history of Veterans Day, take a few minutes to look it up. It's
easy with a computer!) Coming from a family of veterans, I am very grateful for the service they
and many others have given. Perhaps you will have a chance to join a Veterans Day celebration on
November 11 this year.
The fourth Sunday of November is "Christ the King Sunday" on the liturgical calendar.
It is the last Sunday in the Christian year, as the following Sunday begins a new year with the first
Sunday of Advent. The Christian year ends with the celebration of our risen Lord seated in power
and glory, anticipating the day when He shall return. In a world that often seems to be out of
control, I am grateful to be reminded that God is on the throne of heaven, and with sovereign
authority governs all of creation. No matter how things seem, the people of Christ are to live
victoriously in this life, for we know that our Savior has been given dominion over all things (Eph.
1:20-22).
Thanksgiving Day will be here in less than four weeks. On that day you may have
someone ask you to name something for which you give thanks. If we are honest, most of us
would have to admit that we have been blessed beyond measure by our loving Heavenly Father.
For what do you give thanks? Name those blessings, and express your gratitude while you have
the opportunity.

Pastor Dave

feel I do see a light at the end of the tunnel :)
Thanks again for thinking of me with such a
