Methodology

INTRODUCTION

The following load combinations are considered for the analysis:

The overall width of Culvert is 12m left side and 12 m right side on main highway
The Box culvert shall be made with single cell RCC box type structure with cantilever wall.
The clear height of opening of the box is Min 3.0m Horizontal clear opening is 3.0m.
The thickness of top slab and bottom slab has been kept as 300 mm and that for webs hav
been kept as 350 mm. In the design of structure, clear cover is considered as 50mm for top
and walls and in bottom slab clear cover is considered as 75mm.
This design note deals with design of the single cell RCC box structure.
The analysis of box structure has been done considering a slice of unit width. The box has
analyzed for its self weight, superimposed dead load (due to wearing coat and crash barrie
earth pressures using STAAD Pro

Live load positions are identified for maximum bending moments at different sections
corresponding load intensities per meter width are evaluated as per effective width metho
explained in IRC:21-2000.

Earth pressure at rest with saturated density of earth is considered to

produce maximum earth pressure.
a) Coefficient of Earth Pressure as 0.50 & Density of Earth as 2.0 t/m3 for dry .
