Finally, you can now "Zero Out" your work piece on a
lathe or a cutter for milling (great for our ER
headstocks and any ER tool holders). See, here is the
beauty of the new GlockCNC Absolute-Zero-ER Nut;
you can compensate for both the spindle and collet
runoutplus, you are able to zero-out the runout at the
furthest tip of the part or cutter. As you know, runout is
greatest farthest away from the collet chuck. Just put
your test indicator at the furthest part, measure and
adjust.

Here is how it all works. Our special collet nut has two
major pieces; the outer nut with threads and the inner
compression ring (the whole assembly is held together
by a retention ring). There are 6 socket head set
screws around the outer edge ER nut. Back all of them
out until the top of the set screw is flush with the collet
nut surface. Tighten the mounted collet nut onto the
work piece or cutter. Place your test indicator at the
farthest point of what you are clamping. Turn the
spindle to see where your part or cutter is out of
round and hold it there. Simply adjust the corresponding set screw to zero out the part or cutter on the test
indicator. Do this for any area that is out round. Thats it.
Heres the secret. The set screws dont press on the collet. They press on the inner collet compression
ring. This uniformly adjusts small areas of the collet. This allows you to compensate for spindle and collet
error. You see, the spindle will have a certain amount of error and so will any collet. When you put the
collet in the spindle, you add error on top of error. This is call stacking. Your new Absolute-Zero-ER nut is
your solution for this. It can compensate for that combined error (of course, if your spindle, part or cutter is
too far out of whack, then you may still have some errormakes sense right?).
Uses:
Lathes
Zero out the actual work piece for super accurate work
Great where you must have absolutely the highest accuracy or small parts where you cant afford to lose
too much material
Mills
When your end mills are dialed into Zero, your end mills will last longer. This is because all flutes are
cutting evenly. If your end mill isnt turning true, that means some flutes are doing most of the cutting while
others arent. This means flutes that are doing most of the work will wear out more quickly.
More accurate finished products. If your cutter is actually moving in an oblong fashion instead of round; you
will have an in accurate finished part. It will remove more material than you may have planned on. You can
now get the accuracy similar to a shrink fit tooling system without the major investment. All by using our
Absolute-Zero-ER nut
Look, we understand that buying ultra precision components arent cheap...and this is no exception. But if
you require absolute accuracy; then this could end up being the cheapest investment you could make
toward that end, period.
Available in ER40, ER32 and ER25. Requires collet nut wrench one size bigger than stock. In other words,
the ER40 version will require an ER50 collet nut wrench, ER32 needs ER40, ER25 needs ER32. Collet
wrenches are available for all sizes.

The Sherline headstock is a good little headstock, but
its a bit too small for some needs. Because of the
demand for a more robust headstock with larger
bearings; we introduce the Glock Billet Headstock. It
has all the mounting features of a stock Sherline
headstock to keep it completely compatible with
Sherline products. Plus, it has additional mounts for
custom machines. The differences are as follows:

with a widest range of larger collet sizes, you have
found it. Your new ER-50 will give you a lot clamping
power for material from .394" to 1.339" diameter (12mm
to 34mm). The through hole is .820", which is the
largest of any of the ER spindles. All ER50 spindles
are mounted with two front bearings and two rear
bearings because of the extra mass (4 bearings total).
We also recommend, at minimum, getting the 600 watt
motor upgrade at, preferably the 800 watt, 1,000 watt
or 1,400 watt motors. There is more moving mass on
this unit.

Please Note: All of our spindles are custom ground,
hardened and balanced. It take about 6 weeks build
time. The ER50 is really what I would call an "extra
special order" and the cash outlay for this reflects that.
Frankly, they are a bigger investment and not many
sources can custom grind this at the level of precison
we demand (we found a few others, but the cost was
outrageous). It's not for everybody. On flip side, if you
need the size capacity and precision, than nothing else
will do....

What you need to know: Simply bore out a Sherline pulley to mate with the enlarged spindle and you are
ready to swap out to your new headstock (pulleys from us are $49). Jaw chuck adapters are also available
from Little Machine Shop. Build time is typically 2 weeks at this point.
Want a commercial grade headstock & bearings? Upgrade to our Sherline compatible commercial grade
headstock with bigger bearings. These larger bearings are well suited for heavier chucks and wear. The
headstock measures 3.5"x3.5", so it's more heavy duty.

The Sherline headstock is a good little

headstock, but its a bit too small for some
needs. Because of the demand for a more
robust headstock with larger bearings; we
introduce the Glock Billet Headstock. It has all
the mounting features of a stock Sherline
Sherline products. Plus, it has additional mounts
for custom machines. The differences are as
follows:

You can now have a more robust 3.5W x 3.5T x 3.0L, thats a full 1.00 wider and taller
(0.50 on each side & 1.00 taller than a stock Sherline headstock, center is still 1.75)
Larger 62mm OD bearings for heavier work load and superior wear, so you can use
heavier chucks, parts or cutters (stock is only 42mm OD)
Available in deep groove, angular contact (both in ABEC-5 or ABEC-7) and heavy load
taper bearings
(4) -20 threaded mounting holes on the bottom of the headstock for superior rigidity on
custom setups
The new headstocks will accommodate R8, MT3/chuck adapter, MT3, ER 25, 32, 40, 50
and - 5C with rear drawtube coming soon (it will be slightly larger in size)
Higher rigidity Using the MT3 or R8 spindle with Tormach Tooling System...this will
allow for custom ATC (automatic tool changer) applications or rapid manual changes. A
huge variety of cutters and cutter holders. Also, the TTS transfers the tool press to the
face of the spindle and the angular walls. This makes it much more rigid than just using
the angular inside portion of the spindle. We also recommend a larger Z axis for this.
ATC & Tormach Tooling System (TTS) - (you may order Tormach TTS parts directly from us)
The headstock with R8 or MT3 spindle will be required to use TTS. Your new headstock is
ATC ready. In other words, you can adapt a pneumatic or electric linear actuator for this. The
design is up to you. Please note: while the R8 will afford you more options for R8 specific
tooling, the MT3 spindle places the tooling closer to the bearings and will allow for more Z axis
movement. This is because the nose that sticks out from the bearings is shorter by about a .
It is therefore more rigid and allows for more Z movement.
TTS will also allow you to program tool heights into your control software, such as Mach3 or
Mach4.
Recommendations:
While not necessary, we do recommend using at least a 600 watt motor for this. The
bearings are much more heavy duty. If you choose to use a stock Sherline motor, it will
work, however you will need a longer belt (it will directly mount, holes are in the same
place and size as on a stock Sherline headstock)
Pulley - Many opt for a timing pulley set. You may also adapt a stock Sherline pulley. We
offer both V groove & timing pulley taper lock sets and adapted Sherline pulleys.
