onlyonesthatcannotbehypnotizedarepeoplewithseverementaldisabilityandchildren
undertheageofapproximately4yearsold(Aslongastheyareoldenoughtounderstand
thelanguage).Ifyoucanfollowsimpleinstructionsyoucanbehypnotized.
Youllfindmanypeoplewilltellyouthattheycannotbehypnotizedbecausetheir
mindsaretoostrong.Thisisveryfarfromthetruthsincewhensomeoneisgoinginto
hypnosistheyareincontrolandfollowingyourinstructionswillfully.Itisuptothem
howwelltheyaretofollowit.Thereforehavingastrongmindisnotahindrance.
Yourfreewillandhypnosis:Althoughanyonewithreasonableintelligence,asstated
earlier,canbehypnotized,anyonecanresisthypnosisiftheychooseto.Thisrarely
happensinapersonalpracticesincepeoplearepayingafeetocomeseeyouandit
wouldbesillyforthemtowastetheirmoneybyresisting.Howeverindoinghypnosis
wheretheclientsarenotpaying,suchasingrouphypnosisdemonstrationsorin
comedyhypnosisshowsyoumayseethishappeningmoreoften.
Goodandbadsubjects:Thereisnosuchthingasagoodorabadsubjectwhenit
comestoclinicalhypnosis.Howeverintheareaofcomedyhypnosisagoodsubject
wouldbeonethatisextremelysuggestible.Asaresultofthesuggestibilityteststhat
youwillconductatthebeginningofyourperformanceyouwillbeabletodetermine
whothebestsubjectstokeeponstageareandwhoyoushouldsendbacktotheir
seatsintheaudience.
Whatmakesagoodsubject?Agoodsubjectisonewhoishighlysuggestible.You
willfindinagroupofpeoplethatcoverallagecategoriesthattheyounger,
studentagepeoplewillbeyourbestsubjectsinmostcases.
Whatmakesabadsubject?RatherthanabadsubjectIwouldprefertosayan
undesirableonetohypnotizeonstage.Thattypesubjectwouldbeonewhois
resistant,analytical,confrontationalanddoesnotrespondtoyoursuggestions
favorably,andeventhosewhowillgooverboardinrespondingtothemcorrectly.
Manytimesthepeoplethatdothataresimplytryingtopleaseyousotheycanget
onstageandinmanycaseswillgiveyouahardtimelateroninyourshow.
Doesagematter?Inthematterofage,itreallydoesnotmatterhowoldthesubjects
arebutyouwillfindthatyoungerhighschoolandcollegeagestudentswillbemore
suggestible,energeticandgiveyouamuchbettershow.Itseemsthattheolderyou
getinmostcasestheleastopentosuggestionyouare.Asforyoungerchildrenunder
theageof18,youmayrunintolegalissues.Itisalwaysagoodideatohaveparents
permissionbeforeusingthem,orinthecaseofworkingwithschoolsyoumaywant
toobtainpermissionslipsorwaiversfromtheparents.Althoughyoungerchildren
areextremelysuggestibleandwilldonearlyanythingyouaskthemto,manytimes
duetotheiroverenergeticpersonalitiestheycangooverboardandhurtthemselves
ifyouarenotpayingattentionclosely.

Whendoeshypnosisstartandend?Thisisaninterestingconcept.Ifyouunderstand
thatthedefinitionofhypnosisissimplybeingopentosuggestion,thenyouwillrealize
thattheinstantthattheybegintorespondtoyoursuggestibilitytestthattheyare
alreadyinastateofhypnosis.Themoresuggestibilitytestthatyoudo,thedeeperin
hypnosistheywillgo.Thereforeifyoudoenoughsuggestibilitytestswiththedifficulty
levelgradingalittlehigherforeachone,youcanevenbeginyourshowimmediately
withoutdoinganytypeofinductionsorrelaxationexercises.Thiswilllooksimply
amazingtotheaudienceastheywillbewaitingforyoutodotheboringstuff.Itsa
greatwaytocatchthemoffguard,bemoreentertaining,andgivethemtheirmoneys
worth.Itwillalsomakeyoulooklikeamagicianinadditiontoacomedyhypnotist.

Thepurposeof:
1. ToclassifysubjectsThesuggestibilitytestsallowyoutoevaluateyourclients
astotheirlevelofhowopentheyare.Aretheyhesitant,rebelliousorextremely
opentosuggestions?
2. ApreconditioningtoolThetestswillwarmupyourclientandpreparethem
fortheupcomingshow.Ifdoneproperly,withenoughconfidence,theywillcreate
astateofexpectancyintheclientwhichwillbeveryfavorableforyou.
3. ProvidescluesAsaresultofthesubjectsresponseyoullbesuppliedwiththe
cluesthatwilltellyouwhethertheyareanalyticalornonanalyticalthereby
showingyouthebestinductionsandprocedurestouseforasessionorwhotosend
backtotheirseatinthecaseofashow.
Therearetwotypesofpreliminarytest.
AuthoritativeWhichisdoneinaforceful,domineering,directmanner.
PermissiveWhichisdoneinasoftspoken,notforceful,yetpersuasivemanner.
ANALYTICALVS.NONANALYTICAL
Whileanyonewithreasonableintelligencecanbehypnotized,noteveryoneis
hypnotizedinthesamemanner.Therearetwomajorcategoriesthatyoursubjects
aregoingtofallinto.Theyareanalyticalornonanalytical.Thewaythatyouare
goingtofindwhichoneyoursubjectsfallintoisgoingtobebyperforming
suggestibilitytest.Veryrarelywillyoufindsomeonewhoiseither100%analytical
or100%nonanalytica.Asaresultofthetesttheywillfallsomewhereonthisscale
belowbetweenthetwopoints.
Asaresultofthesuggestibilitytest,thosewhofollowyourinstructionsandrespond
wellwouldbeplacedonthenonanalyticalside.Alsothosethatreactquickerwouldbe
placedmoretotherightsideofthenonanalyticalsideandthosewhoreactedslower
whichwouldbeplacedmoretowardsthecenteraccordingtohowsloworlittlethey
reacted.Thosewhodonotreacttoyoursuggestionsorreactverylittlewouldbe
placedontheanalyticalside,placingthosewhoreactverylittle,moretothecenter
andthosewhodonotreactatallalongthescalegoingtowardstheleft.

Nowthatyouhavefoundwhereyoursubjectranksonthescale,thenextstepis
inknowinghowtodeciphertheinformation.Howwouldyouexplainwhatyouhave
foundandwhatthismeanstoyourclient?Firstofalldependingonwhichsideof
thescaletheyendupon,thiswouldtellyouwhetheryouneedtouseananalytical
ornonanalyticalapproach.Fornonanalyticalclients,allyouneedtodoistorelax
themtobringthemtoahypnoticstate.Foranalyticalclientsyouwillhavetousea
differentapproachofkeepingtheirmindsbusy.
Thetests
Althoughanyonewithreasonableintelligencecanbehypnotized,noteveryoneis
hypnotizedthesameway.Justastherearemanydifferenttypesofpeople,there
arealsomanydifferentwaysofhypnotizingthem.Ifyouhypnotizeeveryonethe
samewayyouwouldfindthatmanyofyourclientswouldnotbeaffectedbyyour
sessions.ThisisabigproblemthatmanyexperiencedHypnotherapistruninto
becauseitseemsthatthelongeryoustayinbusinessandgetsetinyourwaysthe
morethatyouseemtoforgetorneglectthebasics.
Thisiswheresuggestibilitytestscomein.Ifyouneedtoknowexactlyhowto
hypnotizesomeone,allyouneedtodoistoteststhem.Thesetestsareextremely
accurateandwillgiveyoumuchinformationaboutyoursubject.Inadditionto
helpingyoutoclassifyyoursubjectastothebestwaytohypnotizethem,these
testswillalsohelpyoutofindimportantcluesaboutyoursubjectandmost
importantlytheywillworkasapreconditioningtoolwhichwillsettheentire
successofyoursessionintomotionifdoneproperly.

Chevreulspendulumtest(Suggestibilitytest)
Whilethistestisnotusedincomedyhypnosisitisagreattooltobefamiliarwith
foraoneononesituation.Practicethiswithyourfamilyandfriendsandyouwillbe
amazedwiththeresults.
Thependulumtestisanexcellenttesttousewithchildrenaswellasotherclients.
Thenicethingaboutthependulumtestisthatitissuccessfulwithmosteveryone.
Standcomfortablyinfrontofthependulumchart,holdingtheendofthechain
ofthependulum,betweenyourthumbandforefingerofyourrighthandwithyour
lefthanddowntoyourside.Thependulumshouldbeplacedaboutonehalfinch
abovewheretheXcrossesinthemiddleofthecircle.Thisisthebestpositioning.
Testverbiage:Withoutconsciouslymovingthependulumaskthependulumto
movefromlefttoright,fromBtoD,andasyoureyesaregoingbackandforthfrom
BtoDnoticehowthependulumbeginsmovingbackandforthalongthelinealso.
AndasyouconcentrateonthependulummovingbackandforthfromBtoDyou
canevenmakeitswingwiderandwider.Now,withthepowerofyourmindaskthe
pendulumtochangedirectionandgoupanddownfromAtoCthatsrightfromA
toC,upanddown.Nowconcentrateonthependulumchangingdirectionagainand
askittotravelinacircularmotionclockwise,fromAtoDtoCanBcontinuingina
circlegrowinglargerandlargerasitcontinuestogoclockwise.Thisisthepowerof
yoursubconsciousmind,movingthependulum.Nowconcentrateonthependulum
reversingdirectionandtravelingcounterclockwise,A,B,C,andDandasyou
concentrateonthependulummakingthecirclelargeryoullnoticethatitactually
beginstoswinginabiggerandbiggercircle.Verygood,youhaveastrongmind.
ThistestisnamedafteranearlyFrenchhypnotist,MichaelEugeneChevreul
whospent20yearsstudyingthesubjectofpendulums.Infacteventodaythe
pendulumisoftenreferredtoastheChevreulspendulum.
Chevreuldecidedtotestifthemovementofthependulumwascausedbyinvoluntary
muscularresponsesofthearm.Hedidthisbysupportinghisarmonablockofwoodat
variousplacesfromhisshouldertohishands.Themovementofthependulumdecreased
theclosertheblockofwoodgottohishand,andinfact,stoppedcompletelywhenthe
fingersthatwereholdingthependulumwerealsorestingonthepieceofwood.
ThiscouldhaveendedthematterforChevreul,butonethingbotheredhim.He
foundthatbygazingatthependulumasheusedithewouldenteradifferentstate
ofawareness.Heconcludedthattherewasadefiniterelationshipbetweenthe
thoughtsoftheoperatorinthemovementofthependulum.Chevreulcouldhave
takenthisastepfurther,buthisconservative,scientificbackground,wouldnot
allowit,andhisultimatefindingswerenegative.
Thisisanexcellenttestbecauseitissuccessfulwithmostclients.Itisnon

threateningandchildrenreallyenjoyit.
Nonanalyticalresponse:Thependulummovesfreelyandnoticeablyineach
directionyoudirectitto.
Analyticalresponse:
Thependulummovesverylittletonotatall.
