Autism is present from early childhood, characterized by difficulty in communicating

and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.
They have trouble understanding what other people think and feel. This makes it very hard
for them to express themselves either with words or through gestures, facial expressions and
touch. Early treatment helps young children with autism developing their full potential. The
primary goal of treatment is to improve the overall ability of the child to function. The article,
Autism Symptoms and Early Signs, Effective Education for Autism written by Melinda
Smith, Jeanne Segal and Elaine Williams. As the title of the article indicates, they discuss
about the symptoms and the best treatment strategies for autistic children. Their main
argument need the general public to correct the perceptions about the best ways, the causes
and the reasons why the children still struggling with this illness while another kids being
normal.
According to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), July 2006, they argue that all
children should receive routine developmental screening. This is including see a
developmental specialist and seeking for early intervention services. The researchers
conclude that they will benefit from early intervention whether or not they meet the full
criteria for an autism spectrum disorder. I agreed to this statement, because in my own
finding, in March 2012, Autism Speaks had convened a meeting and they had found the ways
to promote earlier diagnosis and access to effective intervention. Based on my opinion, they
must use the potential of technology including smart phones or iPads. Its may improve the
access to services in underserved communities such as rural areas. Based on National
Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), intervention has been shown to
improve outcomes for children with autism by using the right screening tools.
In one of the writer opinion, Alycia Halladay, Ph.D., Autism Speaks senior director of
environmental and clinical sciences (2012), she stated that this year shows a greater emphasis
the link between chemical pollutant and autism. Exposure towards chemical can affect the
developing brain in ways that may lead to autism. I do totally agree with her opinion because
brain function itself is to controls motor function and its ability to interpret information sent
to the brain by sensory organs. For pregnant mother it may affect the pregnancy. Children
who are born prematurely may not be at the same developmental level as others. Although it
continues to mature throughout most of life, it does not mature at the same rate in each
person. According to the study, published in the journal Epidemiology because of the
environment changes in California, more than 3000 cases of autism were reported in 2006. In

1990, 6.2 of every 10,000 children born were diagnosed with autism by the age of five,
compared with 42.5 in 10,000 born in 2001.
Heather Volk, Ph.D., of the University of Southern Californias Keck School of
Medicine (2012) stated that air pollution associated with the geographic location can be the
causes in the increasing of autism. The studied on the families of more than 500 children and
their mothers were part of the California-based Childhood Autism Risks from Genetics and
the Environment had been handled. Roughly half of the children had autism. I do not totally
agree because in my opinion, government also must take the responsibility from the effect on
the population because the communities should not live in the place that has already polluted.
This community may play as a central role to the country, but because of their action they had
to go through the pain. Their ability to connect in their communities may be affected. Autistic
children may develop normally until the second or third year of life, but then start to become
indifferent to social engagement.
According to Dr.Dawson and Dr.Insel (2012), they stated that children in the
community intervention group showed greater brain activity when viewing objects than faces.
Previous research has shown that many children with autism have this unusual pattern of
brain activity. I do not totally agreed to his statement, because we still can change the autistic
children by sending them to school for autism or another program for autism. At the same
time, parents should play a role for educate their child. In 18 June 2012, Prime Ministers
wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor had suggested to establish special schools for autistic
children to give them proper education for their future. Malaysia should emulate from the
autistic rehabilitation center in Ivymount, Rockville, United States (US) which is one of the
education centre that gave the teaching through the music.
In one of the writer opinion, Andy Shih, Ph.D. Autism Speaks (2012), he stated that
older father tend to have children with autism. I do not totally agree with his statement
because I think not all older fathers have significantly tend to be the causes of this illness. In
my own opinion, it is also because of the genetic inheritance. Based on The Tech Museum of
Innovation, if you have one child with autism, the risk for the next child is only 2-6%. If
autism were due to a single gene, we might expect numbers like 25% or 50%. And then, if
you have two children with autism, the chances that the third will be autistic are around 35%.
Based on the survey by National Health Service choices, condition that are known to increase

the risk of autism include fragile X syndrome, rett syndrome and cerebral palsy. Rett
syndrome causing the difficulties with physical movement and development.
Regardless of the increase in numbers, many parents of autism are struggling on a
daily basis to figure out how to best help. Because of that, I recommend that parents should
stop spending money on blaming studies. Rather than spending money to do one more study
that does not have true explanations, just do another things that help the communities. For
example spend the money on helping families, individuals or school by buying iPads for
autistic children and adults. Other than that, schools should encouraging lunch buddies where
the kids can have lunch in quiet environments with peers instead of a chaotic, noisy cafeteria.
From this method, it helps an autistic child by joining a group of his peers instead of ignoring
them. I also recommend that cameras should be install in the classrooms to keeping that all
children safe. This would help prevent bullying, violence and abusing toward them.
In conclusion, I hope all parents that have an autistic children will taking and
accepting the lack in their children by helping their children to develop their interests and
talents. Lastly, I strongly believe that all programs and schools can help children with autism
to change and can communicate well like another normal children.
