Lesson Objective:
Students will apply the TWA reading strategy before, during, and after a
reading of the opening story in chapter 7 of Ecce Romani.
Rationale:
In their research, Hedin, Mason and Gaffney (2011) showed that the TWA
strategy improves comprehension for students with attention-related
disabilities. This strategy will help all students, and particularly those with
attention deficit disorders, to better focus their thinking in specific directions
and to get the most out of their reading and translating. The strategy consists of
the following steps:
Activity:
Instruction re: strategy and handout. Students
will fill out the handout as they progress
through reading the story. We will complete
steps 1 and 2 as a whole class at the beginning.
I will model examples of the kind of
information I am looking for, for steps 1 and 2.
Materials:
10 copies of TWA handout
and textbooks.
