I.

INTRODUCCION

La calidad de la vida diaria depende de muchas comodidades

modernas. Las personas gozan de libertad para conducir automviles y viajar
en aviones por negocios y placer. No obstante, la disponibilidad de estas
conveniencias cotidianas tiene un costo con respecto a la contaminacin
ambiental, el transporte ha estado dominado por la utilizacin del motor de
combustin durante ms de un siglo. Actualmente, el nmero de vehculos que
circulan por las carreteras de todo el mundo rondan los 1000 millones con los
consiguientes problemas asociados, emisiones contaminantes que afectan
tanto al medio ambiente como a la salud de los habitantes, ruido, y agotamiento
de los combustibles fsiles, concretamente el petrleo y sus derivados.
Las emisiones de CO2 procedentes del transporte se han
incrementado significativamente desde 1990. Esto contrasta con otros sectores
capitales de la economa, como son la industria energtica, la manufacturera, y
el sector residencial, los cuales han reducido sus emisiones. El progreso de las
economas emergentes no hace sino incrementar las necesidades de movilidad
de sus ciudadanos con las consiguientes necesidades energticas.
El creciente aumento del parque automotor en la ciudad de Tingo
Mara nos lleva en este informe a calcular la cantidad de emisiones gaseosas

que se generan a partir de este hacia una institucin especfica como lo es la

Municipalidad Provincial de Leoncio Prado.
I.1.

Objetivos
I.1.1.
Objetivo General
- Calcular la cantidad de emisiones gaseosas que se generan en

trayecto a la Municipalidad Provincial de Leoncio Prado.

Objetivos especficos
Realizar un registro Vehicular en la Municipalidad Provincial de

Leoncio Prado.
Realizar una base de datos de las encuestas vehiculares en la

Municipalidad Provincial de Leoncio Prado.

Calcular la cantidad de emisiones de CO2 generadas por los

II.1.

REVISION DE LITERATURA

El recurso aire
La atmosfera terrestre se divide en cuatro etapas de acuerdo a la

altitud, temperatura y composicin del aire: troposfera, estratosfera, mesosfera,

termosfera y exosfera o exosfera. Es de aclarar, que la presin o peso del aire
disminuye con la altitud (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).

Las capas ms importantes para el anlisis de la contaminacin
atmosfrica son las dos capas ms cercanas a la tierra: la troposfera y la
estratosfera. El aire de la troposfera es el que interviene en la respiracin y est

compuesto, aproximadamente, por un 78.08% de Nitrgeno, un 20.94% de

Oxigeno, un 0.035% de Dixido de Carbono y un 0.93% de gases inertes como
el Argn y el Nen; en la atmosfera, se encuentra la importante capa de ozono
que protege a la tierra de los rayos ultravioletas tipo B (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
2.2. La contaminacin atmosfrica
En teora, el aire ha tenido cierto grado de contaminacin, los
fenmenos naturales tales como la erupcin de volcanes, tormentas de viento,
descomposicin de plantas y animales e incluso los aerosoles emitidos por los
ocanos contaminan el aire. Sin embargo, cuando se habla de la
contaminacin del aire, los contaminantes son aquellos generados por la
actividad del hombre (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
La contaminacin se cuantifica a partir de la concentracin
atmosfrica de los diversos contaminantes. Los contaminantes del aire suelen
dividirse en gases y vapores, material partculado y ruido, tambin es comn
clasificarlos en contaminantes primarios y secundarios: un contaminante
primario, es aquel que es emitido directamente al ambiente y mantiene su
forma qumica, mientras que un contaminante secundario es aquel que
experimenta un cambio qumico cuando llega a la atmosfera (ORTIZ, et al.,
1996).
Si bien los contaminantes urbanos son mltiples, segn ORTIZ, et
al., 1996 los ms comunes y para los que se han establecido lmites aceptables
de concentracin sobre la base de los efectos observados sobre la salud, se

denominan contaminantes criterio. En el nivel internacional el contaminante

criterio del aire son:

Monxido de carbono (CO)

xidos de azufre (SOx)

xidos de nitrgeno (NOx)

Ozono (O3)

Plomo (Pb)

Material partculado (MP10 Y MP2.5)

Dentro de las fuentes que emiten contaminantes del aire, pueden

nombrar fuentes mviles y fuentes fijas.

II.2.

Fuentes mviles
Las fuentes mviles incluyen a las diversas formas de transporte

tales como automviles, camiones y aviones, etc. La principal fuente mvil de

contaminacin del aire es el automvil, pues produce grandes cantidades de
monxido de carbono (CO) y cantidades menores de xidos de nitrgeno
(NOx) y compuestos orgnicos voltiles (COVs). La contaminacin del aire es
la que se produce como consecuencia de la emisin de sustancias txicas.
Puede causar trastornos tales como ardor en los ojos y en la nariz, irritacin y
picazn de la garganta y problemas respiratorios (TORRES, 2011).
Los programas para el control de emisiones de automviles, como
el programa de verificacin vehicular y el uso de convertidores catalticos, han
reducido considerablemente la cantidad de contaminantes del aire. Adems, las
normas que especifican la calidad del combustible de los automviles y lmites
de emisiones de vehculos nuevos y en circulacin, tambin han contribuido a

una mayor eficiencia y menores emisiones. Por ejemplo, la transicin de la

gasolina con plomo a la gasolina sin plomo, ha reducido extraordinariamente la
cantidad de plomo en el aire ambiental. Sin embargo, debido al creciente
nmero de vehculos, los automviles siguen siendo la principal fuente mvil de
contaminacin del aire (TORRES, 2011).
II.3.

Los contaminantes por fuentes mviles

Teniendo claro que una fuente mvil es aquella que por su uso o

propsito es susceptible de desplazarse y que el aporte de las fuentes mviles

a la contaminacin atmosfrica por material partculado se calcula en un
porcentaje aproximado del 40% del total de las emisiones, siendo menor al
porcentaje de las fuentes fijas el impacto que tienen sobre la poblacin es ms
significativa debido a la mayor cercana que existe entre esta y la fuente de
emisin. Debido a que en nuestro pas existen diversos tipos de fuentes
mviles y de combustibles, es necesario especificar la tipologa y el grado de
emisiones contaminantes aportado por cada una de ellas (TORRES, 2011).
II.3.1. Fuentes mviles con motores a disel
Los automotores impulsados por motores disel son la mayor
fuente de contaminantes atmosfricos, aportando cerca del 80% de MP, 60%
de las emisiones de NOx, 65% de SOx y 50% de CO. Esto debido al alto
contenido de azufre en este tipo de combustible, a la ausencia de tecnologas
de control de emisin, a la antigedad de estos vehculos y a los problemas de
diseo y mantenimiento de vas (TORRES, 2011).

Sin embargo, es de aclarar, que al comparar los ciclos de vida de la

gasolina y el disel, resulta mucho ms beneficioso para el ambiente la
utilizacin de disel, puesto que los gases contaminantes generados en el
proceso de produccin de la gasolina, son mucho mayores a los reportados
para la produccin de disel, adems, si se implementarn tecnologas de pos
tratamiento de gases de escape para los vehculos que utilizan disel para su
funcionamiento, se vera una gran disminucin en las emisiones problema de
NOx y MP (TORRES, 2011).
II.3.2. Fuentes mviles a gasolina
Los vehculos a gasolina contribuyen con el 50% de las emisiones
de CO y COVs y 40% de NOx, siendo responsables de la formacin del smog
fotoqumico; lo anterior debido a la antigedad de los automotores, el
incremento del parque automotor, la reduccin de la movilidad, a la oxigenacin
de la gasolina y a la falta de controles de emisin a los vehculos nuevos
(TORRES, 2011).
II.3.3. Fuentes mviles a gas natural
Debido a que los vehculos que operan con gas natural han sufrido
una conversin a partir de motores diseados para operar con gasolina, el
desempeo ambiental de estos es inferior al de los vehculos construidos para
operar con gas natural, por lo cual las emisiones de los mismos podran
exceder las emisiones de los automotores a gasolina (TORRES, 2011).

Por otro lado, la conversin de vehculos a gasolina para que

funcionen con gas natural, genera un deterioro mayor de los componentes del
motor debido a la generacin de residuos carbonosos y al lavado de la pelcula
del lubricante, con lo cual, no solo se generan problemas de contaminacin
atmosfrica asociados a las emisiones, sino que tambin, generan otro tipo de
problemas asociados a la generacin y manejo de residuos inertes (TORRES,
2011).
II.3.4. Motocicletas con motores de dos tiempos
Este tipo de motocicletas son despus de los motores de disel, las
fuentes mviles ms importantes en cuanto a contaminacin aportando cerca
del 17% de las emisiones de MP, debido a la baja eficiencia en la combustin, a
la necesidad de mezclar la gasolina con el aceite lubricante y al incremento del
nmero de motocicletas en circulacin (TORRES, 2011).
II.4.

Principales Contaminantes Atmosfricos

Los principales contaminantes atmosfricos son el material

partculado, el Dixido de azufre, el monxido de carbono, el ozono, los xidos

de nitrgeno y compuestos orgnicos voltiles. Adems, muchos metales
pesados se encuentran presentes en el material partculado en la atmsfera
(ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
II.4.1. El material partculado (MP)
El material partculado presente en la atmsfera es una mezcla
compleja de sustancias orgnicas e inorgnicas, desde sal de mar y partculas

de suelo hasta partculas de holln producido por el uso de combustibles fsiles.

El material partculado proveniente de la combustin se puede emitir
directamente, en forma de carbono elemental y orgnico, o bien formarse en la
atmsfera a partir de otros contaminantes. Tambin se puede emitir material
partculado al resuspender el polvo presente en las calles. El material
partculado total presente en la atmsfera recibe el nombre de partculas totales
en suspensin (PTS). Las partculas ms finas se denominan de acuerdo con
su tamao; por ejemplo, PM designa a todas las partculas con dimetro inferior
a 10 micrones1, y PM2.5, las inferiores a 2.5 micrones (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
II.4.2. El dixido de azufre o anhdrido sulfuroso (SO2)
Es un gas incoloro, que se produce debido a la presencia de azufre
en el combustible, principalmente disel. Se oxida posteriormente en la
atmsfera, produciendo sulfatos, que forman parte del material partculado. El
SO2 en presencia de material partculado forma una mezcla letal, que fue
responsable de episodios como el de Londres en 1952, en que hubo miles de
fallecimientos (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
II.4.3. El monxido de carbono (CO)
Es un gas incoloro e inodoro, que se produce debido a la
combustin incompleta. El CO impide el transporte de oxgeno en la sangre, y
en concentraciones altas produce la muerte (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
II.4.4. El ozono

Un oxidante, es el principal de los contaminantes atmosfricos que

forman el llamado smog fotoqumico, que se produce en la atmsfera por
reacciones qumicas en presencia de radiacin ultravioleta. Los aerosoles que
se forman como parte del mecanismo fotoqumico reducen de la visibilidad,
dndole a la atmsfera una apariencia caf rojiza (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
Con respecto a los xidos de nitrgeno, los ms relevantes son el
xido ntrico (NO) y el dixido de nitrgeno (NO2). El NO2 absorbe luz en el
rango visible, lo que produce merma de la visibilidad. El NO2 participa en la
cadena de reacciones que conducen a la formacin de smog fotoqumico
(ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
Por

ltimo,

muchos

metales

pesados

pueden

encontrarse

presentes en la atmsfera. De ellos, el plomo es tal vez el ms comn, debido

a su uso como aditivo en las gasolinas normales (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).
II.4.5. Los contaminantes atmosfricos de efecto global
Los principales contaminantes globales son los llamados gases
efecto invernadero (GEI). Los ms importantes son el dixido de carbono
(CO2), el metano (CH4), el xido nitroso (N20), y el ozono troposfrico (O3).
Estos gases atrapan la radiacin infrarroja reemitida al espacio por la Tierra,
por lo que un incremento en su concentracin produce el calentamiento de la
atmsfera (PICC, 2001), con consecuencias en el clima, como es un aumento
de fenmenos climticos extremos. Estos gases tienen una larga vida y se
distribuyen en toda la atmsfera, de modo que su efecto no depende del lugar
en que se emitan (ORTIZ, et al., 1996).

II.5.

Incidencia del trnsito de vehculos en la contaminacin

Los vehculos motorizados son una de las principales fuentes de

contaminantes

atmosfricos

en

las

grandes

ciudades.

Los

vehculos

motorizados propulsados por motores de combustin interna producen en

general tres tipos de emisiones contaminantes: las emisiones por el tubo de
escape, las evaporativas, y el levantamiento de polvo de las calles
(BEHRENTZ, 2006).

II.5.1. Emisiones por el tubo de escape

Las emisiones por el tubo de escape son producto de la

combustin del combustible (sea este gasolina, disel, u otro derivado del
petrleo). Debido a que la combustin no es perfecta, se produce una serie de
contaminantes, como el monxido de carbono y los xidos de nitrgeno.
Adems, ciertos contaminantes presentes en el combustible, como el plomo y
el azufre, se liberan al ambiente a travs del proceso de combustin. Las
emisiones por el tubo de escape dependen de las caractersticas del vehculo,
como de su tecnologa y tamao del motor; por ejemplo, los vehculos ms
pesados tienden a tener emisiones unitarias (emisiones por cada kilmetro
recorrido) mayores que los vehculos livianos. Las emisiones dependen
tambin de la presencia de elementos de reduccin de emisiones como
convertidores catalticos; del estado de mantencin del vehculo; de factores
operacionales, como la velocidad de circulacin, el nivel las aceleraciones y las
caractersticas del combustible, como el contenido de azufre (BEHRENTZ,
2006).
II.5.2. Emisiones evaporativas
Las emisiones evaporativas corresponden a la evaporacin del
combustible a la atmsfera. Se trata por lo tanto de hidrocarburos (HC). Su
magnitud depende de las caractersticas del vehculo, factores operacionales
como el nmero y frecuencia de detenciones, factores geogrficos y
meteorolgicos, como la altura y temperatura ambiente, y principalmente, la
presin de vapor del combustible (BEHRENTZ, 2006).
II.5.3. Levantamiento de polvo

Las emisiones por levantamiento de polvo de las calles dependen

del peso del vehculo y su velocidad de circulacin, y tambin de caractersticas
de la va, como del flujo promedio de vehculos en ella; por cierto, dependen
tambin de la cantidad de material slido depositado en las calles, susceptible
de ser levantado por los vehculos que circulan. A diferencia del material
partculado emitido por el tubo de escape de vehculos disel, el material
partculado levantado por la circulacin de los vehculos corresponde
principalmente a material inerte de la corteza terrestre (polvo), que puede
contener adems otros contaminantes que se han depositado despus de
haber sido emitidos a la atmsfera. La composicin de este material partculado
depender entonces de la ciudad o lugar de que se trate (BEHRENTZ, 2006).
II.5.4. Contaminantes secundarios
Adems, es necesario resaltar que los contaminantes primarios
que se emiten a la atmsfera pueden reaccionar en ella, formando los llamados
contaminantes secundarios, de los cuales los ms importantes son el material
partculado secundario (que forma parte del material partculado fino o PM2.5)
y el ozono. En Santiago de Chile, se estima que ms del 60% del material
partculado fino corresponde a material secundario (BEHRENTZ, 2006).

Metodologa

Se registr las placas a todos los vehculos que llegan a la municipalidad

durante una semana.

Se proces los datos en el Excel, y calculamos el tamao muestral por
marcas de cada vehculo.

III.3.2.

Clculo de las emisiones de CO2

Se elabor un cuadro resumen, en donde figura el nmero de vehculos

en total por marca, el recorrido en km/da, tiempo de recorrido h/da y el
gasto de gasolina de 84 o 90 octanos segn sea el caso en l/da, en
base a los resultados de las encuestas.

Se recolect informacin de REPSOL .Ficha de Datos de Seguridad que

la densidad de la gasolina de 84 octanos es de 0.713 g/cm 3

As mismo, el MINEM 2012 indica que la de 90 octanos 0.73 g/cm ,

Con la informacin obtenida se procedi al clculo de emisiones de CO 2

, mediante la ecuacin qumica siguiente:

Esta reaccin qumica representa la combustin de la gasolina.

Se procedi a determinar los gramos de gasolina contenidos en 1 l de

dichos combustibles cuyas densidades se indicaron anteriormente, con
la frmula siguiente:
Gramos de Gasolina C8H18 = (Densidad * Volumen de la gasolina empleada por
marca registrada)

Se determin los moles correspondientes de C 8H18 (masa molecular del

octano, 114 g/mol), con la frmula siguiente:

La relacin estequiomtrica de una ecuacin permite que se relacionan

los moles, de este modo:

Este valor de emisin de CO2, es una estimacin por los 5 das de

registro vehicular que se hizo, por lo que tenemos que dividir entre estos
das para obtener la emisin de CO2 segn las marcas registradas.

Se estim la emisin de CO2 para un mes y un ao por marcas

registradas en la municipalidad de Tingo Mara.

DISCUSION

La exposicin a los contaminantes atmosfricos representa un

riesgo para la poblacin que vive en las ciudades del pas (BELMAR ET AL,
1994) y no est exenta de ello, los nios y los ancianos, ya que son la
poblacin ms vulnerable y presentan mayores riesgos en su salud cuando
son expuestos a contaminacin atmosfrica intensa, por lo cual podemos decir
que en la ciudad de Tingo Mara es un lugar donde existe contaminacin por el
parque automotor ya que tenemos un volumen considerable de emisiones
directas de CO2 a la atmosfera que es de 114.58 Kg de CO 2/da en la gasolina
de 90 octanos y de 33.43 Kg de CO2/da en la gasolina de 84 octanos.

Segn el especialista en biocombustibles, SOTO F. (2009), nos

dice que durante la combustin de un litro de gasolina se emite a la atmosfera
2.28 Kg de CO2, en nuestro resultado tenemos que por cada litro de gasolina
combustionado se emite a la atmosfera 2.254 Kg de CO 2, esto se debe
principalmente a que existe una variacin en la cantidad de vehculos en
estudio, ya que existe una variacin tanto en cilindraje como en cantidad de
vehculos.
Adems podemos observar en el cuadro 13 Que existe una
variacin de emisin de CO 2 de acuerdo a la marca del vehculo, esto se debe
a que no se trabaj con la cantidad de vehculos iguales para cada marca.
Por otra parte podemos observar en el cuadro 13 y el cuadro 14
que existe una variacin de emisin de CO2 a la atmosfera dependiendo del
tipo de combustible que utiliza cada vehculo, esto se debe principalmente a
que la composicin qumica y la densidad de la gasolina 84 y 90 son diferentes
como tambin la cantidad de vehculos estudiados por cada tipo de gasolina es
diferente.

CONCLUSION

Durante los 5 das de observaciones en la zona de estudio se registraron

800 vehculos, de los que se sac un tamao de muestra representativa
por marca del vehculo con un total de encuestados de 213 personas

entre las 10 marcas.

Se realiz una base de datos de las encuestas vehiculares en la
Municipalidad Provincial de Leoncio Prado con el tamao muestral

encontrado, evaluando desde la informacin del encuestado, informacin

sobre el vehculo hasta conciencia ambiental con 27 preguntas.

De las encuestas realizadas se obtuvieron los datos para calcular la
cantidad de emisiones de CO2 generadas por los vehculos que llegan a la
Municipalidad Provincial de Leoncio Prado por da, mes y ao, siendo
segn las marcas las siguientes cantidades producidas por ao: HONDA
de 953 Kg CO2/Ao, BAJAJ 456 Kg CO2/Ao, RTM 303 Kg CO2/Ao,
YAMAHA 55 Kg CO2/Ao, WANXIN 236 Kg CO2/Ao, QUINGQI 69 Kg
CO2/Ao, LIFAN 91 Kg CO2/Ao, CROSSS 253 Kg CO2/Ao, SAMA 101
Kg CO2/Ao Y VELOREX 30 Kg CO2/Ao.
