to replace the letter a allowing the band to add their own iconic logo into the promotional material. By using this signature logo, fans can easily identify the band when new albums are released. Not only is this logo used on this album, it is used consistently on all of bastilles promotional material to allow audiences to familiarise themselves with the band. The triangle gives the band there own entity, allowing them to be easily distinguishable from other current artists. This specific triangle is associated with witchcraft creating mystery and intrigue about the band. An example of the effectiveness of this triangle is when the band perform live, fans in the crowd create a triangle with there hands highlighting how well known this symbol has become a renowned logo
The digipack uses the rule of thirds in
the construction of the front cover. This is effective as it allows all appropriate information to be listed in a neat format for a consumer to see. The rule of thirds tends to be a typical convention we see on posters, however the designer has gone against this convention and used this on the digipack. This could hint a deeper message that bastille are going against the social trend of only using the rule of thirds on posters rather than album covers
BASTILLE is written in block capitals in
order to draw a costumers attention to the name of the band. Both the names of the album and of the band are equal in size showing that they both play an important role in gaining someones attention. The contrast of black and white helps the lettering to stand out, ensuring the names can be easily read
Artist imagery is not
depicted on this album cover however the album is showing more of a narrative behind the man running away. This makes the audience question why he is running and possibly suggests he is being chased by someone or something. The album cover has a very vintage feel about it also indicating the type of alternative genre that the band fall under
The general feel of the album is very cinematic as the layout is
very similar to that of a film poster. This coincides nicely with the image of the male running as it helps add to the narrative and make it appear vey film-like. The small text on the bottom is also a typical convention in the film industry. From these conventions, we can see that bastille are trying to divert from the music industry and add their own twist in commercialising the album. The bands alternate album continues the narrative as it shows an abandoned car. It is as if there is a story being told and its down to the audience to find out who is being chased and maybe who is the owner of the car
The designer has decided to put any of
the albums credits on the front of the album. Typically, we expect to see this at the back of an album however the designer is going against this convention.
