While Canada has undergone


important economic, social and
technological changes since the
1970s, the minimum wage and the
average hourly wage are
essentially unchanged.
Taking inflation into account, the
minimum wage peaked in 1976 at
just over $11 an hour in Canada.
The following year 1977 average
hourly earnings peaked at close to
$24.
Although these indicators have
fluctuated since then, the minimum
wage in 2014 after adjusting for
inflation had an average value of
$10.39 per hour, and average
earnings were between $22.70 and
$24.51 per hour.

In terms of employment, more than 72%


of people between 15 and 64 years in
Canada have gainful employment,
higher than the OECD average figure of
65%. About 75% of men have a gainful
employment, compared with 70% of
women.

According to official Statistics of Canada,
between 2010 and 2011, employment
among foreign aged between 25 and 54
years increased 4.3%, resulting in a

unemployment rate, to settle at 8.4%. The
employment rate of foreign reached 75.6%.
