Unit Title: Emerging Leaders-Cyber Citizens
Audience: 9th Grade Family and Consumer Science
Duration: (3) 90 minute class periods

STAGE 1 DESIRED RESULTS


ISTE Standards:
2. Communication and collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to
communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual
learning and contribute to the learning of others.
a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety
of digital environments and media
b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a
variety of media and formats
4. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making: Students use critical
thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make
informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

Instructional Goal:
Learners will develop a basic
understanding of online issues and their
role as cyber citizens and emerging online
leaders.

Essential Question:
As an emerging leader how can I educate
others on the issues surrounding being a
cyber citizen?

Objectives:
1. Understand the basics of common online issues.
2. Be able to define their roles as cyber citizens and emerging online leaders.
3. Understand the implications of their actions when online.

STAGE 2 ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE


Performance Task(s):
- Complete a presentation that leads others
to learning about issues surrounding cyber
citizenship.
- Complete a 500 word reflection on a
given topic related to being an emerging
leader and cyber citizenship.

Other Evidence:
- Complete an organizational chart
referencing the following: What do you
know? What do you want to know? What
have you learned? How can I lead others to
learning?
- At the end of the unit, participants will be
asked to complete an evaluation of the unit.
A survey will be provided via Google
Forms and consist of both multiple-choice
and short answer questions. These
evaluations will be used to determine the
success of the unit lessons and to assess the
need for follow-up lessons in that particular
area or in related areas.
