Bill et al,
Thank you for the phone call allow me to summarize the plan.
You will have your crews coordinate the lane closure with TDM and the Bridge crew with the intent to have the work completed by the end of the week. This will include
removal of any weeds and removal of the sun flowers that are growing in the median.
The planting of the median will be done later this year when appropriate (after the water restrictions are lifted and the weather is appropriate). We can coordinate
this at a later date.
Let me know if there is anything else you need from my team to assist.
Thank you for the quick exchange of information.
Regards,
Scott

Scott,
I have no problem having your staff do this work, just to let you know I have been getting increasing pressure from our GM and the Board Chair to have this work done
and to get the median planted. I understand that this is under the jurisdiction of Engineering but we take the brunt of complaints because residents blame the Park
Board for anything green. I also understand and support that this is not the right time to plant this or an median, I will contact the Chair and inform him of the planting
plan for the median.
I have promised our Chair that the weeding will be done this week (including the removal of the Sunflowers) so if you can guarantee that the work is done then we will
back off on this.

Importance: High

Hi Bill,
I understand that you have directed your crews to weed and remove the sunflowers from the median at the south end of the Burrard Bridge. Having had staff from the
Transportation Division review this location, there is no sight line or safety related issues. Therefore, this work would be being completed only for aesthetic reasons.
This is a busy area and proper lane closures should be reviewed, coordinated and approved by Transportation staff. This is normally coordinated by one of your
superintendents and must include support from the bridge crews. We understand that no discussions have taken place for this lane closure.
Previous approval for use of funds within the Burrard Bridge rehabilitation and upgrade project was granted by the project manager. In previous discussions, there was
no additional horticultural work planned until the upcoming planting season. Given the dry conditions and water restrictions in place we are planning to coordinate
with your team to plant this as soon as possible in the fall (October or November depending on the rain)
Given the demand for your staff team to manage horticulture related work (where their expertise is best utilized), should this simple removal of plants need to be
undertaken we may be able to find alternate resources within Engineering to undertake this simple removal of plants. This would allow your crews to undertake the
planned work as part of their scheduled median maintenance.
Can you please give me or Cheryl a call to discuss and clarify the need, the funding source, and to ensure that proper lane closures are put in place to ensure public
safety.
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Subject: Burrard median
Hey Jamie and Alex. Thought I would mention that I have been in contact about the Burrard St median in question over
the last month. For reference we had 2 Lagans 101006312220 & 101006367896 - about it. Lysa Morishita met with
Linda Chow in July and the result was they could not offer any guidance translated, the median is not in the Streets
Horticulture inventory yet as it has not been planted. Also to refresh, last time we maintained this median at Bill
Hardings request (Marchish) Linda Chow was, lets say bothered, that the time sheets ended up in their department. As
the median is not in the inventory the work has to/should go through the City project manager that will eventually
oversee it being planted before it is handed over the Streets Inventory. I would propose that the project manager be
contacted in advance. Just some thoughts/observations.

Hi Rob,
I met with Linda about this yesterday afternoon and unfortunately I do not have any guidance for you. The median is not
yet ours (i.e. belonging to Engineering) to maintain, so there are several other steps that need to be taken before we
can do work in this space. One of them is to get confirmation from the project manager to do the work, and get a charge
code from him.
Im sorry I cant help more.

Hi Linda,
I received a request from Bill Harding to weed and clean up the median at the south end of the Burrard Bridge, including
removing all the sunflowers growing there. The direction Ive received is for this work is to be completed this week,
while we still have our dedicated Street Horticulture crews in place (i.e. theyll be laid off this Friday).
Do we have your approval to bill the work on this median to network CER603120, as before?
Bill has asked for an update on when this median will be planted. Do you have any info on the status of this project that I
can pass on to Bill?
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Brian,
Have you heard anything else (e.g. direction from Bill) on your end about preferences for next steps for this median? Ill
need to touch base with the Burrard Bridge Project Manager (Dave Currie) and others within Transportation/Engineering
before we implement any actions. (You may recall that Dave requested that I plant the median now instead of continuing
to weed. You and I had previously agreed that we would not recommend planting at this time and that we wait until the
fall when it much more suitable. If you feel differently now about this issue, please let me know since I anticipate further
discussions about this planting request.)

Thanks,
Linda

Subject: Median at SW end of Burrard St Bridge

Hi Linda,
I just received an email from Rob Sims regarding the median at the SW end of the Burrard Street Bridge. I had spoken
with Rob about it last week in response to Kana case 6367896 from June 24 complaining about the tall weeds.
Rob said someone has planted 6 tall sunflowers in the median (Ive seen them, theyre enormous). He wanted to bring it
to our attention that if they go and weed, and remove the sunflowers, we would probably receive complaints about it.
Can we make a decision on how to proceed with this median?
Cheers,
Lysa
