INTRODUCTION
Since there is an urgent need to map exact location where
sex is actually sold enumerate the no of sex worker and to
understand the sex industry in chennai. This study was
proposed.
The study focussed to gain in-depth understanding of
commercial sex surrounding industry and to study the
knowledge attitude behavior and practice of commercial sex
worker with regard to STD\HIV\AIDS and condom usage.
Similar study was conducted by WHO in 1992 aiming to
identified sex worker in chennai. If sex workers exist and
develop startegy for HIV/AIDS intervention.

girls who operate from family set up without knowledge of
anyone including their neighbours.
Street worker
Who stands in the street and pick up clients on her own
rarely with the support of brokers. There are the most
depressed category of sex workers.
Brothel Based
This category of women work in fixed places and the clients
reach them through part time and full time brokers.
Mobile Brothel
5 to 6 women in a car or a van start at a particular time and
visit particular points to reach clients with prior appointments.

of contracting HIV, due to practicing this profession and their
sexual behaviour.
All the above are mostly the Misconception that the sex
workers have. Washing with soda, not letting the sperms
enter are all sort of own remedies practiced by them.
