CURRICULAR STATEMENT
Pupil develops factual knowledge, conceptual knowledge, procedural knowledge and
metacognitive knowledge on the concept of properties of acids and alkalies through
observing, inferring and communicating.
CONTENT ANALYSIS
New terms: Acids, Alkalies
FACTS
1. Acids react with carbonates and forms carbon-di-oxide gas.
2. Acids react with metals to liberate hydrogen gas.
3. Acids react with alkalies and form a neutral solution.
4. Alkalies have basic character
.CONCEPTS
Acids react with metals to liberate hydrogen gas.. Acids have sour taste.
Hydrochloric acid helps indigestion. Acids react with carbonates and forms carbondi-oxide gas.
Alkalies do not react with carbonates. Alkalies have basic character. Acids react with
alkalies and form a neutral solution.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Enables the pupil to develop,
1. Factual knowledge on modern acids and alkalies by,
5. Recalling the concept of acids and alkalies.
Raising questions.
PRE-REQUISITES
Students are familiar with the sour taste of acids.

ACTIVITY-1
Today I am going to tell you an autobiography
of a person.
(Teacher tells the students the properties of
acids in the form an autobiography)
My name is Acid. There are so many
members in my family. Each of them has some
special names.
My grandfather named hydrochloric acid helps
in digestion of food in the stomach.
He is a very angry person. If he becomes very
angry he makes disease like STOMACH BURN
in the human body. To make him cool
medicines like antacids are taken by the
human beings. In the world there many uses
with our family. Our presence is more even in
the soil. The farmers use lime to reduce my
presence in the soil. All the members of my
has sour taste. We changes blue litmus paper
to red. When phenolphthalein is added to us
there is no colour change. There is another
character of us that is we react with metals
and liberate hydrogen gas. We are included in
many of the food items. Different members of

CONSOLIDATION
Acids react with metals to liberate hydrogen
gas. Acids convert blue litmus to red. When
phenolphthalein is added to acids there is no
colour change. Acids have sour taste.
Hydrochloric acid helps indigestion.
Acids react with carbonates and forms carbondi-oxide gas.
ACTIVITY-2
Have you heard the autobiography of
acids?
Do you like it?
Next the acid had gone to a city. There
he met his friend named ALKALIE.
We can listen their conversation.
ACID: Hello Alkalies how are you?
ALKALIE: I am fine Why are you so
angry?
ACID: I am not like you I am someone
different. I react with carbonates and
forms carbon-di-oxide gas.
ALKALIE: I dont have this property, but
I react with phenolphthalein and forms
pink colour.
ACID: You feel oily when touched. But I
dont feel such disturbances.
Yes
DISCUSSION POINTS
1. Which gas is formed when acids react
carbonates?
2. Which colour is formed when alkalies
react with phenolphthalein?
CONSOLIDATION
But alkalies do not react with carbonates.
Alkalies changes blue litmus red. Alkalies have
basic character. Acids react with alkalies and
form a neutral solution.
ACTIVITY-3
I will sing a song relating to the characters of
acids and alkalies.
ACIDS.ACIDS..
Burns the hand when touched..
Alkalies.Alkalies..
Forms a slippery touch
Acid turns blue litmus red.
Alkalies turn red litmus blue.

ACTVITY-4
Teacher gives the students an activity card.
And asked them to arrange the colour when
each of them reacts with acids and alkalies.
