AIRPORT MANAGER, ANDERSON MUNICIPAL

Incumbent serves as Airport Manager for the Anderson Municipal Airport, responsible for
planning, developing and managing airport facilities and operations, and ensuring compliance
with all federal, state and local regulations.
DUTIES:
Oversees and maintains airport services for refueling and storing of private and commercial
aircraft, including maintaining hangars, runways, roads, and grounds, ensuring accessibility and
safety of incoming and departing traffic, negotiating contracts, and overseeing related billing and
collection of fees.
Supervises and directs department personnel, including hiring, assigning work, training,
providing corrective instruction, and maintaining discipline.
Regularly inspects airport facilities, including hangers, runways, and grounds, ensuring
compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
Prepares and submits annual budget request and administers budget upon approval, including
authorizing payroll and other expenditures.
Plans and develops improvement projects in conjunction with Board of Aviation Commissioners
(BOAC) and other local, state, and federal officials, and oversees ongoing construction and
development projects.
Researches, develops, and markets commercial ventures on/in airport facilities, such as food
service vendors, commercial airlines, and land lease/development.
Researches available aviation grant programs, provides information and discusses with
Controller which grants to pursue, and prepares and submits applications. Administers awarded
grants, including maintaining appropriation/disbursement records, monitoring cash drawdowns
to ensure proper amount and timing, maintaining document files and accurate statistics in
compliance with granting agency requirements, and preparing/submitting required reports.
Prepares and submits various operational and financial reports as required.
Serves on various boards and committees of the Anderson Airport, attending meetings, making
reports and recommendations, and providing information as requested.
Authorizes and coordinates special events at airport facilities, including reviewing requests,
communicating with appropriate persons, and coordinating services and logistics.

Maintains current knowledge of legal requirements and aviation trends by reading related
periodicals and periodically attending conferences/training.
Serves on 24-hour call for emergencies, directing operations during emergencies and accidents as
needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor Degree in business administration or related area; airport management experience


preferred.
Thorough knowledge of and ability to make practical application of principles of airport
management, and related federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, BOAC, other

Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including during occasional
encounters with irate/hostile persons.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information/records
according to state requirements.
Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules. Ability to
maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers. Possession of a valid Indiana
driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record. II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
Incumbents work is broad in scope, involving many variables and considerations. Work is
guided by accepted principles and practices of airport management, and goals and objectives of
the BOAC. Guidelines are generally well defined, but require some adaptation to fit the

development and maintenance needs of the Airport.


III.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Incumbent makes a major contribution to the BOAC mission, implementing policies, making
non-routine decisions, and referring unusual problems to the BOAC as required. Incumbent's
work is periodically reviewed for soundness of judgment, appropriate supervision or direction of
assigned operations, and compliance with established policies and regulations.
IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains frequent communication with department co-workers, BOAC, other
government/regulating agencies, and members of the public for a variety of purposes, including
exchanging information, negotiating contracts, explaining/interpreting policies and procedures,
and supervising personnel.
Incumbent reports directly to BOAC.
V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent performs a majority of duties in a standard office environment involving sitting and
walking at will, speaking clearly, hearing sounds/communication, bending, reaching, and
handling/ grasping/fingering objects. Incumbent occasionally assists other department personnel
with duties outdoors involving exposure to fumes, dust, noise, airplane propellers, and moving
equipment.
