Differenteras,differentmindsets
ThiscampclaimsmodernpeopleinterpretancientGreektragedydifferentlythanancient
Greecebecauseoftheviewoftragedyindifferenttimeerasorjustthedifferenceinsocieties.
ThiscampworksasthefundamentalpremisethatthewayGreeksviewtragedyiscompletely
differentthanmoderndaypeople.Althoughmostplaysaretranslatedandbarelychanged,
modernpeopleviewitasaworkofartspeakingagainstsocietyasopposedtoanancientGreek
whoviewsitasastorythatisdestinydrivenandcannotbestopped.
TheGreeksperspectivewouldfaultthemoderndayideologyoffightingdestinyand
believinginhappyendings.WhichiswhyIbelievemodernpeoplefindithardtointerpretand
believeGreektragedy.
Althoughrespectedandlovebymodernpeople,thiscampemphasizesthattheway
modernpeopleviewproblems(tragedy)iscompletelydifferentthananancientGreekperson.A
bigpartofthisisbecausemodernpeoplenotonlyusetheirpasthistorytounderstandaplaybut
alsoaddsvariables(race,gender,etc)thattheGreekwriterwouldnoteventhinkabout.
