Team Exercise: Where in the world we are

Purpose:
The exercise is designed to help you to understand the potential
advantages of involving others in decision rather than making decision
alone.
Situation:
You have just crash landed somewhere in the wilderness of an island
and it is midnight of a chilling December. The small plane which
crashed, have lost its pilot in the crash and sank into the river and the
rest of the people manage to reach a dry land (that is ur group). The
last weather report which you got while traveling is that the
temperature will reach minus 10 degree C in day time and minus 25
degree C in night. There is plenty of dead wood in the area, near the
river. You and all the survivors are dressed in formal suits and shoes.
While escaping from the plane, your group managed to drag out the
items listed in the next tally sheet.
Based upon the things available, you and your team will have to decide
the things which you can keep and the things to be left behind, in order
to reach conveniently to the nearest habitation.

Tom, Dick & Harry

You are in-charge of a small departmental store and have three

subordinates Tom, Dick & Harry. The key of success for the store is to
keep these three motivated. Here is brief summary about them.
Tom: He is the type of employee who is hard to figure out. His
absenteeism record is much higher than average. He greatly enjoys his
family and thinks they have be the center of his life. The best way to
describe Tom is to say that he is kind of a person, who deeply believes
in the values of the culture. As a result, the things that the company
can offer him really inspire him very little. He feels that the job is only
a mean of financing his family `s basic needs and little else. He is
pretty much allowed to do his own thing as long as he meets the
minimal standards of performance.
Dick: He is in many respect different from Tom, he is a likable guy ,but
unlike Tom, Dick responds well to the companys rules and
compensation schemes and has a high degree of personal loyalty to
the company. The problem with Dick is that the will not do very much
independently. He dose well with what is assigned to him, but he is not
very creative or even dependable, when his is on his own. This hurts
his performance to some degree because he can not sell him self
independently.
Harry: on the other hand, is a very assertive person. He will work for
money and would readily change jobs for money. He really works hard
for the company but expects the company also to work for him. Even
though having a family and his elderly father, he once quitted with an
employer who did not gave him a raise: he never seemed satisfied.
