1. History
The history about Brazil starts with the Precolonial period, Portuguese
colonization and territorial expansion; when Portuguese arrived to Brazil,
there were about 2 million Indians in all Brazil. In the colonization, in 1549,
the king appointed a General Governor to manage the entire colony. There
were some wars against French, Spanish, trying to prevent the expansion.
The independence was recognized by Portugal on August 29, 1825, in the
Treaty of Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil has a lot of popular festivals, but the most important and know around
the world is The Carnival. The Carnival of Brazil is celebrated every year
51 days before Easter. It starts on Friday afternoon and finish on
Wednesday noon.
2. Customs and food they serve
Brazil has a lot of typical dishes, drinks and customs, but depend the
area you are. Their typical dishes are the product of very different cultural
influence like: Indian, African, Portuguese, Italian, German, Arabic, etc.
Drinks:
Cachaza, its the most popular drink obtained from the distillation of
fermented cane juice sugar.
Caipirinha, its a refreshing cocktail prepared with lemon juice, sugar
and cachaza, and sometimes with pieces of fruits.
Caipiroska, its like the Caipirinha, but instead cachaza its prepared
with vodka.
Cerveja, its like every beer, but in Brazil is served with lot of foam.
Coconut Smoothie, Its one of the most exquisite drinks in Brazil, its
prepared with rum, sugar and coconut milk.
Dishes:
Carne de Sol, it food consist in beef jerky, that was exposed to the sun
four days ago.
Acaraj, it food its prepared with feijao fradinho and shrimps, fried in
palm oil.
Coxinha, its an appetizer prepared with chicken breast wrapped in a
mass, fried with a lot of oil.
Tapioca, its food is prepared of a kind of crusty bread made from yucca,
roasted in a comal.
Queijo Coalho, its food is prepared with pasteurized cheese fried in
strips.
Customs
Brazilians are very effusive; they tend to embrace, slap shoulders
and also are very communicative, even if they dont know you. They are
very friendly, kind, but they use to forget you quickly in the next day.
3. Sights
Cristo Redentor
It is consider one Wonder of the World, a monument that represents
to Jesus Christ and measures about 38 meters. It is located 710 meters
above the sea; in this place, you have a beautiful view from all the city of Rio
de Janeiro and the beaches. This monument bless to the cariocas from
August 13, 1931. It was built by a fundraising company.
Pan de azcar
Elevador Lacerda
It is located in Bahia, and it is in the principal places more visited in
Brazil. The engineer Augusto Frederico de Lacerda built it in 1873. The first
name of this place was Hidrulico Elevador da Conceio da Praia but
then, it was change in honor to the builder. In addition, it was rebuilt in 1930,
when a bridge and a new tower were add. This place connects the upper
city with the lower.
Iguaz National Park
It is located in Paran State. It comprises a total area of 185 262.5
hectares. It was create in January 10, 1939 by federal decree and became a
UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. It is share with Argentina. Its
principal attractions are a big virgin forest and waterfalls.
Las playas de Recife
They are located in Recife city, which was well endow by nature
respect to the beautiful beaches. The principal beaches are Porto de
Galinhas, Boa Viagem, Pina, Praia del Chifre, Piedade, Barra da Jangada
and others.
4. The most representative characters
Luiz Incio Lula da Silva, was born in Caets on October 27, 1945.
He was President of the Republic from January 1, 2003 to the same day in
2011. He started as a metallurgist. While he was as President, he made
reforms and radical changes that produced the social and economic
transformation of Brazil, to the point of developing the Republic into a world
