Topic: What are they doing?

Aims

Ss. will revise the purpose of Present continuous and its correct usage in sentences
Ss will improve their practicing in forming, asking and answering questions using
Present Continuous tense
Ss. will develop speaking skills
Ss. will revise and extend vocabulary
Ss. will fix specific structures helped by visual aids

Teaching Aids: flashcards, slips of paper, two power point presentations, video projector,
blackboard ,class cassettes
Classroom interaction: T-S
S-S S-S-S
Students grouping: lockstep, pair work, group work
Anticipated problems: Children may be shy at the beginning and forget to use the words in the
correct order while asking such questions. They may also dont have enough time to fulfill all the
tasks.

Stages of lesson activity


Warm up
Teacher greets students, and ask them about their mood. Teacher tell children to close their eyes, and
to tell her what do they hear. T elicits answers. Teacher asks then what are doing the children in the
classroom, at the moment.
What is Ioana doing now?

Checking homework
Teacher checks children homework, correcting where necessary.

Lead in
Teacher tells students they are going to talk about actions which take place in the moment of
speaking and they are going to revise Present Continuous tense. Teacher writes the title of the lesson
on the blackboard, and present ss. some affirmative negative and interrogative forms of present
continuous. Students read them out.

Activity 1
Students listen to some sounds and answer the questions.
Is Mrs. Freeman having a bath? No, she isnt. She is having a shower.
Teacher gives them an example, then ss. make dialogues. Teacher monitors students to make
sure they are giving the answers correctly.

Activity 2
Teacher asks children if they know Mr. Bean
Do you remember the short film with Mr Bean?
Do you like Mr. Bean?
What about sandwiches?
Do you like sandwiches? What do you put in a sandwich?

Teacher encourages students and tells them they will have some questions about Mr Beans
film, the one they saw last English class. They have to answer the questions as they see the
pictures with Mr. Bean doing some activities. Teacher makes sure children know all the words,
and puts some flashcards in front of them. Students work in groups and answer the questions.

Activity 3
Teacher give ss. a worksheet in which they must choose the correct form of verbs, Children
work in pairs. (see appendix 1)

Activity 4
The next activity is called What are they doing and children see some photos with
people/animals doing different activities. This time they must ask questions related to the
pictures and guess what are the people/animals doing. Teacher gives them some examples, then
they practice in pairs.

(Additional possibility)
Students are going to complete a letter with the correct forms of the verbs given. The exercise
is in the students book.(page 78)

Evaluation
Teacher evaluates students (verbal and written appreciation) performance in using Present
continuous tense and the vocabulary items specific to the topic.

Homework

Ss look at Judys diary for next week and complete what she says she is
doing
(see appendix 2)
