STOP HUNGER NOW WORK DAY CHANGES IN SUNDAY WORSHIP

Lookin’ Good in Our Hats!!! Fr. Bob Brown

Beginning on Easter, and continuing throughout

the Great Fifty Days, the Sunday Liturgy will
have a noticeable change. The Great Fifty Days
is the festive period from Easter to the day of
Pentecost (fifty days later). It is a time of special
celebration paying tribute to the Resurrection
and all that it means.

During this time we will not have the usual

Confession of Sin by the people and Absolution
The first shift reporting for duty pronounced by the clergy. This is in accord with
the ancient church who felt that “…Christians
acknowledged their sinfulness by giving thanks
to God, in the Eucharistic prayer, for having
redeemed them. The Lord’s Prayer contained the
petition ‘forgive us as we forgive’. No
absolution was included, for one of the benefits
of communion was understood to be the
forgiveness of sins.” Commentary on the
American Prayer Book, Hatchett, Marion J., p.

We will return to the more familiar petition of
the General Confession and the assurance of
God’s forgiveness in the pronouncement of the
Absolution on Trinity Sunday, May 30th.
