Discussion
1.A good accountant must possess such
skills:understanding,communication,commercial awareness, Leadership abilities
.Ill explain why:
*understanding-Accountants need to be able to grasp new concepts quickly
whether it is assimilating new information or data, managing a project, or meeting a
new client. If something is new to them, they need to be able to ask the right
questions and follow the right leads during research. Their intellectual skills will not
be judged by their academic grades alone: recruiters like to see that they can apply
their knowledge to practical situations. They need to accommodate to situations.
* communication-Companies of all sizes and sectors are looking for accounting staff
with strong communication skills. 'As accountants are increasingly working on
project teams with various departments, the ability to communicate financial
information to non-financial audiences has become a highly valued skill set',
*commercial awareness-There will continue to be a requirement for professionals
who can anticipate future business developments and financial trends across the
globe. Careers in accounting are changing and as a result an increase in business
transformation outsourcing and shared services has been seen, areas which are set
to become even more prominent in this economic cycle.
* Leadership abilities- Accounting professionals need to be ambitious self-starters
who can develop new insights and motivate and engage team members.
2.The job of an accountant is a risky one. Accountants are responsible for accurate processing
and reporting of a company's financial information, and mistakes can incur penalties, or worse. The job
often entails long, stressful hours, and sitting at a desk all day isn't particularly good for your health. So the
risks are:Penalties,Stress,Health and other.
*Penalties- The suspension or revocation of a CPA's license can occur due to criminal activity or a
violation of ethics.
*Stress- Many accountants are classified as exempt employees, so they don't qualify for overtime pay
under the Fair Labor Standards Act. It also means they aren't compensated for long hours at the office
during tax season, or closing the books at month end and the end of the fiscal year. Audit deadlines and
the potential penalties from inaccurate reporting can cause stress. Because accounting departments don't
generate revenue, staff cuts often occur in economic downturns, leading to overwork and uncertainty for
remaining staff.
*Health- Accounting isn't an active career. Most of it is spent sitting at a desk, which is detrimental to
health. Researchers at Loughborough University and the University of Leicester found in a 2011 study
that long periods of sedentary behavior led to an increased risk of developing diabetes and heart
problems, including death from a cardiovascular event. They pointed out that sitting all day might not be
the primary cause of the increased risk, but the evidence is compelling enough to recommend increased
movement and exercise for desk workers.
3.Yes,Im agree with it,because the probability of detecting creative accounting depends on

its size and the transparency of the budget. So if its a good accountant, and he knows
how to do a good creative accounting, hell bring only benefits.I have a good attitude
about creative accounting, because its very hard without it,an accountant could help a
lot the company where he works,by using creative accounting. However, a good accountant is
able to analyze things,to reduce expenses,to resolve some problems of the company he works, and many other
actions, that say to us-a good accountant is a need for every company.

4.I agree with the following statement, because the theoretical knowledge

helps us

understand why one technique works where another fails. It shows you the

whole forest helps us set strategy. Where self education is concerned theory
prepares us to set a direction for our future education. Theory teaches us through
the experience of others.Beside that, Practical knowledge helps us to acquire the
specific techniques that become the tools of our trade. It sits much closer to us
actual day-to-day work. There are some things we can only learn through doing
and experiencing. Where theory is often taught in the ideal of a vacuum, the
practical is learned through the reality of life. Both of the above are important.
You wont survive in any career unless you can not combine them. Focusing only
on one side while ignoring the other will limit us in ways we may never even
realize.

VII.Read these accounting jokes and say how accountants are portrayed:
After reading all these jokes,I can say that accountants are portrayed like persons
that are influenced a lot by their job.
1.Accountants are portrayed as people that are very carefully in every count.Even
in a small error in counting something, they put a lot of work in order to
eliminate this error, because they need to have all under control. They are
obsessed with their work,so this seems to have a big influence in their life.
2. Here accountants are portrayed like persons that are exactly in everything, like
data,years,facts and others.
3.In this joke, accountants are portrayed like very boring persons, that live only
with their work, and dont have time for anything else.
4.Accountant are portrayed like sullen people, that think only about their job,and
dont have time to socialize with other people.
In conclusion,I can say that its not so easy to work as an accountant, but if you
really want this, you will need to accept all the minuses this job has.
