How to Use
Surface
Preparation

This is the single most important step. Best results will be achieved by following the
suggested recommendations.
Concrete surfaces: Surfaces must be clean and sound, free of old existing coatings.
New concrete should cured to at least 80% of the design strength before applying. Dry
surfaces provide best results. However, product will adhere to clean, damp surfaces.
Remove all laitance, oil, grease, curing compounds or other contaminants from the
working surfaces. Sandblasting or mechanical abrading is preferred.
Steel surfaces: Surfaces should be sandblasted to white metal immediately before
the application of the bonder.

Mixing

Pre-mix each component. Empty component B into component A pail. mix for
3 minutes using a low-speed drill (300 - 450 rpm) to minimize air entrapment. Use
an Exomixer type mixing paddle (recommended model). During the mixing operation,
scrape down the sides and bottom of the pail with a flat or straight edge trowel at least
once to ensure thorough mixing. Upon completion of mixing, Sikadur XL Gel should
be uniform in colour. Mix only that quantity you can use within its pot life. Can be mixed
one to one by volume with clean dry bagged silica sand to achieve easier troweling or
when grouting bolts.

Application

Sikadur XL Gel can be applied by pneumatic or hand-operated caulking gun, by

trowel or by hand using rubber gloves. Putty knives can be used to spread the bead
applied with a caulking gun.

Clean Up

Clean all tools and equipment with Sika Equipment Cleaner. Once hardened, product
can only be removed mechanically. Wash soiled hands and skin thoroughly in hot
water or use Sika Hand Cleaner towels.

Limitations

Sikadur XL Gel is capable of curing down to -18C (0F), but must not be placed at
this temperature.
