togenderstereotypesandportrayedthemasneuroticoldmaidsorsvelteyoungseductresses.This
articleexaminesthecasesofElizabethBentley,PriscillaHiss,EthelRosenberg,andJudithCoplon.It
analyzesthegenderconstructionsusedinthemediacoverageofthesewomen,andarguesthat
exploringtheseconstructionsiscrucialtounderstandingthesignificanceofthesecases.
