TEQIP II sponsored workshop on

Simulation based engineering

science approach: A scientific
approach to engineering
December 18-19, 2015

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

INTRODUCTION

TARGET AUDIENCE

Use of simulation tools in engineering has become

the norm. Almost all engineering jobs, especially
design related, rely heavily on use of numerical
tools coupled with hands-on work. The pedagogy
of engineering education needs to be oriented for
this objective. There is also a need to improve the
standards of our engineering graduates by
introducing simulation based engineering science
approach so that they become globally
employable and to groom them for future
indigenous design development work.
In light of this there is a need to educate the
academic
community
about
trends,
methodologies and benefits of the simulation
based engineering science approach. This
program will look at continuum mechanics, fluid
and solid mechanics education at undergraduate
and postgraduate levels. The educators of all
disciplines of engineering can benefit.

Faculty involved in teaching mechanics (solid/fluid)

and design/optimization related subjects are
specifically expected to benefit. It is hoped that these
will bring a new paradigm to their teaching and
research.

PEDAGOGY
The programme will consist of lecture sessions,
discussions, case studies and panel discussions.

INSTRUCTORS
The program will be conducted by faculty from
departments of Mechanical Engineering and Applied
Mechanics, IIT Delhi with key lectures from Prof J S
Rao, Chief Science Officer, Altair Bangalore and
President Academics, KCT Coimbatore.
