Lesson
Introduction:
1. I will start the class by giving the students a couple of minutes to relax, sin
they will be coming in from recess. I will ask them to put their heads down
and listen to the music that is playing on the Smart board.
2. I will then say Good morning boys and girls which will prompt the stude
to put all of their belongings away in their school bags or in their desks.
3. I will explain to the students that we will be writing a story together today.
4. I will refresh the students memories about the different components of a g
story.
5. I will write all of the components on the board in order for the students to h
a point of reference if they get lost.
Development:
5-10 minutes
35 minutes
1. I will ask some of the students what the rules of circle time are. I will ask t
students who tend to break the rules of circle time. Then, I will restate wha
the circle time rules are.
2. I will ask the students to quietly walk up to the Smart board and take a sea
will advise them to not sit next to their friends so that they are not tempted
speak to them.
3. I will explain to the students that we are going to be writing a story as a cla
This means that we will be making decisions as a class and that if they do
agree with some of the things we are writing, it is okay. They will have the
chance to write their own stories another day.
Tasks:
1. I will start by asking students who our character should be.
2. I will ask the students what the setting should be, in other words, where an
when the story is taking place.
3. I will ask the students what our take off (Suddenly) should be. I will rem
them that our story has to make sense as well and that it is not just a jumbl
events put together.
4. We are going to write the other parts of the story as well (plan, action,
complication, plan again, action, landing, wrap up).
5. Once we finish writing the story, I will ask the students if they have any
questions about the story or if they need any clarification. This will also be
wrap up.
Plan B: (if
students are too
rowdy and
distracted?)
If the students are distracted and misbehaving, I will send them back to the
seats. I will ask them if they know why I sent them back to their seats. I wi
ask them what they would change for the next time we do circle time. Then
will call them back to give them one more chance. If they repeat the same
behavior, I will ask them to go back to their seats and take out their writing
books. I will ask them to write their own stories in their writing books.
Behavior
considerations:
I will be using Class Dojo for both positive and negative reinforcement. I w
ask students to go back to their seats if they are disruptive during circle tim
will also take off Dojo points. If they disrupt again, I will ask them to give
their agenda. If they disrupt one more time I will write a not home to the
parents.
Differentiation:
Assessment:
Since the students do no have to produce work for this class, I will be
differentiating the way I teach by keeping the students who tend to go off
task, near me.
Assessment will be done diagnostically. I will be asking several students to
answer several questions. I will ask them what they think the next event
should be in our story and use eliciting to get the student to understand, if n
be. Since I am modelling how to write a story, students will be collaboratin
my story.
