ABSTRACT
Rachmawati, Eny. 2011. Students Mastery in Translating Technology Article
entitled Dubais Rotating Skyscraper. A thesis submitted as partial
fulfillment the requrements for the Sarjana degree of English
Education Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education.
University of Muhammadiyah Gresik. Advisors: (I) Slamet Asari,
M.Pd, (II) Rohmy Husniah, M.Pd

The writer is interested in the study of Students Mastery in Translating
Technology Article entitled Dubais Rotating Skyscraper. Hence the research
question was formulated as follow: How is the students ability in translating
technology article entitled Dubais Rotating Skyscraper The writer used
descriptive qualitative research in doing this study. The writer described the
students ability by analyzing their translation using one of the standard of
translation assesments.
The subject is 6th semester of English Department students in University
of Muhammadiyah Gresik. Moreover there were two research tool used in this
study. They were test and observation.
The writer conducted the study during July 2010 after translation class.
The research found that more than half of students have good ability in
translating technology article entitled Dunais Rotating Skyscraper, even
more less quarter of the students have poor ability.
From the discussion of the study, the writer concluded that the finding of
this study has contrary with Smiths theory (1996). Based on the previous
study, it also concluded that there are some differences in translating short story
and translating technology article. Finally, based on this study, to have
acceptable translation in technology article, students should made through
substruction as the structural procedure and also modulation, omission,
borrowing and synonim as semantic procedure

First of all. I praise Alhamdulillah hirobbil alamin to Allah SWT
for His merciful and graceful gift in my life. He also gives me spirit to finish
my study. I give my great gratitude to my dearest advisors, Mr.Slamet and Ms.
Rohmy, also the chairman, Mr. Khoirul for the helpful suggestion, advices,
motivation, patience, during the advisory period until the completion of this
thesis.
I also give my great gratitude to Mr. Yudhi Arifani as the Translation
lecturer. He gave me valuable experience and knowledge
I dedicate my deepest love and sincere to my beloved parents and
parents-in-law for their kindness and love. Thanks also to my sister, kids and
my husband for his support, pray and help. I also want to say thanks to all of
my colleague in IEC and my friends whose names I cannot mentioned detail
here. I will not forget our togetherness and happiest moment.
