highlight three courses that you KNOW you want to take while at UW. Share the course description
as provided by UW catalog and/or department, and annotate that description with a personal
reflection of why you want to be sure to take this particular course before you graduate.
Piano:

MUSICP 301 Private Instruction for Non-Majors: Piano (2, max. 44)
VLPA McCabe, Seales, Sheppard
Intended for undergraduate non-majors. Audition required.
I have played piano for almost ten years now with two different
instructors. The one that I am learning from right now has been my
instructor for the past five or six years. I want to try taking lessons at the
university to look at someone elses approach to teaching and hopefully
learn something new.
PHIL 115 Practical Reasoning (5) I&S, QSR Lee
Introduction to logic emphasizing concepts and methods useful for
practical analysis of arguments in everyday contexts; meaning,
syllogisms, logical diagrams, inductive and statistical inference, informal
fallacies, argument structure, perhaps some beginning symbolic logic.
Offered: AWSpS.
This class sounds extremely useful in everyday life. Having never taken a
debate class to practice my speaking, I feel that taking a class in practical
reasoning will help me throughout all walks of life, whether I am listening
to politicians on TV or engaging in everyday conversation with my friends.
This class will help me think in a more coherent manner, improving my
interactions with people and improving my own process of learning.
NBIO 301 Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology (5)
NW Moody
Introduces students to the physiological and molecular properties of
individual nerve cells and the synaptic connections between them, and to
principles of nervous system development. Includes weekly laboratory
sessions. Prerequisite: BIOL 220. Offered: W.
Neurobiology is my tentative major, so the introduction to the sequence of
neurobiology will be extremely exciting. This is where I will truly decide
whether or not I want to study neurobiology. As of now, the course
description already intrigues me because from my studies in Psych 101
this quarter, I already know the basics of what neurobiology is about.
Hopefully I will get into the major and have an opportunity to take this
class!
