Oh For a Thousand Tongues to Sing

57 vss. 1-4

CALL TO WORSHIP
Beloved, our hearts pour into Yours
and every word we shout is Your praise!
You are the song,
and we are your singing.
You are the hope of a heart stripped bare.
You are the calling of a life made new.
Our lives are a love song to You;
our love is Your glory let loose.
Let Your Spirit fill this time of worship
and fill the world You call us to serve. Amen.

PASSING THE PEACE

YOUNG PEOPLES MESSAGE
OPENING TO GOD
Creation speaks, surpassing understanding
Light in the darkness, time and space entwine
We who inherit vistas of true glory
Sense growing wonder for the works divine
Fill now our minds with wakening comprehension
Fill too our hearts, with all that love might bring
Grant that our senses tune to hidden beauty
Causing real music in the hymns we sing
Heeding the call to follow in Christs footsteps
Offering commitment for the things we pray
Taking the challenge to be true disciples
Taking the cross to follow come what may

HEBREW SCRIPTURE
Isaiah 65:17-25
For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth;
the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating;
for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy,
and its people as a delight.
I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people . . .
They shall build houses and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build and another inhabit;
they shall not plant and another eat;
for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be,
and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
They shall not labor in vain, or bear children for calamity;
for they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord
and their descendants as well.
Before they call I will answer,
while they are yet speaking I will hear.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together,
the lion shall eat straw like the ox;
but the serpentits food shall be dust!
They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain,
says the Lord.
GOSPEL
Luke 11:1-9
He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one
of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught
his disciples. He said to them, When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.
And do not bring us to the time of trial.
And he said to them, Suppose one of you has a friend, and you
go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves
of bread; for a friend of mine has arrived, and I have nothing to set
before him. And he answers from within, Do not bother me; the
door has already been locked, and my children are with me in bed; I
cannot get up and give you anything. I tell you, even though he will

not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, at least
because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he
needs.
So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you
will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone
who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for
everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Is there anyone
among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead
of a fish? Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? If you
then, as flawed as you are, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy
Spirit to those who ask him!

OFFERING OF OUR 2016 PLEDGES

God of our minds, God of our hearts,
God of our bodies and our souls:
we offer You all that we are, and all that we arent.
We offer You our fears and confusions, our hopes and our dreams.
We offer these first fruits, a portion of the gifts You bestow on us,
knowing that they will be transformed into acts of ministry
and that we will be transformed by Your Love.
Accept our worship.
Enable us to feel Your presence and hear Your Word.
In Christs name we ask. Amen.
