Applications:
Cobalt is used in making alloys like alnico in manufacture of small powerful
permanent magnets for magneto-loud speakers, radio and T.V. sets
It is used in cancer treatment.
Cobalt salts are used in coloring glass and pottery etc.
10.Tungsten (W) :
Properties:
Tungsten is a silvery white metal.
It is the heaviest metal as its specific gravity is 19.3
Its melting point is 3370C and boiling point is 5700C. therefore, it has highest
melting point
Tungsten is hard and brittle. It is a crystalline in the powdered form
It is a good conductor of heat and electricity.
It is a malleable and more ductile than even Gold.
It can take high polished and welded. It has lowest vapour pressure and highest
melting point
Applications:
Tungsten is extensively used for filaments of electric lamps.
It is used in the formation of high speed tool sheets.
It is used as anticathode in X-ray tubes.
It is used in manufacture of surgical instruments and in making contact points,
spark coils, gramophone needles etc.
It is used in the manufacture of gauzes in centrifugal machines as it resists both
acid and alkalis.
The oxide of tungsten is used in ceramics of products various shades of yellow in
glass and porcelain.
Sodium tungsten is used as morten in dyeing of silk, to decolorize acetic acid and
in fire proofing of fabrics.
11.Silver (Ag) :
Properties:
It is a silvery white lustrous metal.
Its specific gravity is about 10.5 so, it is heavy metal.
