This week we are learning: Circle Time Review This week in circle time we are going to listen to we wish you a merry Christmas and learn the words. I will introduce the Christmas vocabulary: Santa Claus, Christmas, present, stocking, bell, star, tree, card, ornament, Christmas lights, reindeer (Rudolph et al), Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, candy canes, angels, snow, snowflakes, snowman. We will review the key words practiced last week. The four words are short a words consisting of dad, pad, rag, and bag. We will play games such as fly swat and card jump to test how familiar the words are.

Activities and worksheets:
This week we are going to focus on Xmas vocab. After learning the vocab we will do a variety of worksheets. A Xmas vocab word search will help to improve the students spelling and reading. We will also do a worksheet where the students have to read instructions about which colours to add to a picture of Santa Claus i.e. Santa has a red nose and pink face. Crafts: In crafts we are going to make Christmas angels. The students will decorate the Angels, cut them out and glue the various body parts together. Games: Additional games we will play will be charades, where the students act out a flashcard, for example a snowman. We will also play musical chairs with flashcards placed on the chairs that have to be read out when sat on. Videos: We are going to watch The Snowman cartoon and I will explain what we see.
This week we will complete unit 8 in Oxford
Phonics World, focusing on the following word groups: 'ut' nut, hut, cut; 'ub' cub, tub; 'um' gum, hum; 'un' bun, run, fun. We also completed review section 4. The students have New (letters/sounds/vocabulary) now completed all of the assigned vocabulary from Oxford Phonics World and we will focus on Refer to circle time box for new vocabulary review from now on. They have a strong understanding of all the short u words that we studied and can recognise them, apply them, and pronounce them confidently. I used targeted vocabulary games such as the Lines game, Bingo, the Corners game and the Slaps game to practice all of the words and sounds from the Writing Practice Sightwords past two units and will continue to do so with all the vocabulary in the next few weeks.
