managers always think about.

Confusing between strategy and statements like my strategy is to
internationalize, to consolidate my industry or to outsource. not
strategy, just steps.
Strategy: what unique position will we be able to achieve, what
competitive advantage we will have after taking these steps cumulatively
overtime and how we sustain it.
Many companies get themselves fixated on a particular step drive the
company off the cliff. They dont understand why they are doing it and
when they should stop doing it.

Part 1: Mistakes in defining strategy.

A natural way of thinking: competing to be the number one in what you do


is strategy danger way of thinking. There is nothing that is number one,
one bank/car can be the best with a group of customers but not the best
to others.
Challenge of strategy if to be unique and different, but Vietnamese
companies are copying each other.
3 mistakes in defining strategy:
(1) Confusing between strategy and particular steps (internationalize,
outsource, etc.) Strategy is the position that you want to reach or
achieve.
(2) Confusing between strategy and hope/goal.
- Hope is like we want to be the best not strategy.
- Strategy is how you are going to be different so you can be the best.
(3) Confusing between strategy and vision.
- Vision is like our vision is transforming business through design or to
understand and satisfy the needs of women global. not strategy, like a
slogan.
- Strategy must be a competitive advantage and specific.
- Competitive advantage may be unique source of customer, best quality
in term of feature of product, fast shipping time, etc.

You must understand your strategy and can explain it to not only your
customers but also your employees so that they can contribute to.
Good strategy starts from goals/objectives.
1st goal: profit> 2nd goal: growth
Vietnamese companies may think 2nd goal>1st goal.

Part 2: How to create a good strategy (5 fundamental principles)


1. A different value compare to your competitors.
2. Different way to run business: strategy is different choices that adapt
the value chain.
3. Make trade-off and choices (?)
4. Strategy is related to a set of value chain that is reinforced

You must tie your products to your marketing, production, services
and reinforce them.
5. Strategy must have continuity.
o Run a strategy consistently overtime, at least 3 year.
