DONTS
1. Do not keep TE Limit switch in Limit
position unnecessarily when not required.
2. Do not keep MCOS in OFF position
while all motors are working.
3. Do not start the loco with out ensuring
these switch position.
4. Do not crank the engine with MCB1 &
MCB2 in ON position. Otherwise penalty
brakes are applied if BCP is not build up
within 94 seconds.
5. Do not release the start button in
between. Otherwise the time starts again.
6. Do not switch OFF Circuit breaker CEB
and then do complete loco checking.
7. Do not keep MCB1 & MCB2 in ON
position in rear locomotive. Otherwise load
meter does not respond in rear loco.
8. Do not keep the EPG cutout switch in
ON position in rear / dead locos.
Otherwise MR pressure reduces.
9. Do not release loco brakes while loco is
stabled. Otherwise VCD apply penalty
brakes.
10. Do not reduce notch for momentary
wheel slip and loco is moving.
11. Do not reduce notch for the message
TM# Excess Current while theloco is
moving unless and until warranted by
railroad signals.
12. Do not release brakes till the
locomotive is ready to move. (@ 90 deg.
Centigrade of engine temperature.)
13. Do not isolate VCD magnet valve
cutout cock unless and until the valve is
leaking.
14. Do not try to reset penalty brakes if
1. Loco is moving, or
2. Throttle is in notch / Dy. brake
Remedial Action
1. Check Fuel oil in the Fuel Tank.
2. Check battery knife switch and all circuit breaks
on the control compartments and control stand
for proper closing.
3. If fuel pump contractor is not picking up, pack
FPC with a suitable wooden wedge(You can do
it also in case, where operating coil has burnt).
4. Check carbon brushes of fuel pump Motor and
clean, if necessary.
5. Tap the relief and regulating valve lightly.
6. On the FPB emergency switch provided on
emergency switch Board.
(Horizontal).
2. Check both Air Brake Cylinder cut out cocks,
cocks should be in open position.
3. Tap C-2 relay valve gently.
4. Brake cylinder pressure should be 35 PSI
(2.5kg./cm2)if not adjust by SA-9 valve.
22. LOCO BRAKES NOT GETTING :
1. Check SA-9 handle in other control stand, put in
release position.
2. Tap C-2 relay air valve gently.
3. If still loco brakes are not released, close/cut
cocks and work the train to destination.
4. Check the pressure setting of brake cylinder
pressure. Pressure should not be more than
2.5 kg./cm2.
INSTRUCTIONS TO THE DRIVERS FOR TROUBLE SHOOTING OF MEP LOCOS
Cause

Remedial Action
1. If OSTA is tripped, reset it. Crank the engine.
2. Ensure that there are no sticky racks or fuel
injection pumps.
3. Check the notch wise engine RPM

BAP

5. When any fault occurs Buzzer in the control Unit starts beeping.
a) For normal faults: Normally, when the faults are recovered, the fault message are
cleared from the screen and the buzzer stops by itself.
b) For other faults: These faults require attention of the Driver. Hence where ever the
fault message is not cleared on its own, Please press ACKNOWLEDGE button on
the control unit, to clear the message and stop beeping of buzzer.
6. If the Engine is shutdown due to any fault, please press ACKNOWLEDGE button on the
control unit, to clear the message and stop beeping of buzzer.
7. Even after pressing ACKNOWLEDGE button and the fault message is cleared, still if it is
not possible to crank the Engine then switch OFF Battery and control Circuit Breakers.
Switch ON them again after few seconds and re-crank.
8. LOW BAP BYPASS SWITCH INSTRUCTIONS.
In case BAP is not buildup in Loco (i.e. either BAP on the display is less then the BAP
displayed on Loco gauge or BAP is less on both the display and Loco Gauge), operate
bap Bypass toggle switch to Bypass mode provided on the in Governor control unit
front panel. Write a clear remarks in the repair book for which the BAP Bypass switch
is kept in By pass mode.
Note:-Locomotive runs normally even if the display is blank or parameters are not updating.
