Milton ! Thou shouldst be living at this hour :

Fireside, the heroic wealth of hall and bower,
Have forefeited their ancient England dower
of inward happiness.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day
Till the last syllable of recorded time
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death.

Break, break, break
On thy cold gray stones, O Sea !
And I would that my tongue could utter
The thoughts that arise in me.
O, well for the fishermans boy
That he shouts with his sister at play !
O, well for the sailor lad,
That he sings in his boat on the bay !
And the stately ships go on
To their haven under the hill;
But O for the touch of a vanishd hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still !
Break, break, break
At the foot of thy crags O sea !
But the tender grace of a day that is dead
Will never come back to me.

The golden gates of sleep unbar

Where Strength and Beauty, met together,
Kindle their image like a star
In a sea of glassy weather !
Night, with all thy stars look down,
Darkness, weep thy holiest dew,
Never smiled the inconstant moon
On a pair so true.
Let eyes not see their own delight;
Haste, swift hour, and thy flight
Oft renew.
Fairies, sprites, and angels, keep her !
Holy stars, permit no wrong !
And return to wake the sleeper,
Dawn, ere it be long !
O joy ! O fear ! what will be done
In the absence of the sun !
Come along !
