The human body needs sugar in order to work properly, so why have people done

everything they can to get away from it? Artificial alternatives to real sugar do more
harm to the bodys health, than believed. Sweeteners have snuck their way in by
promoting weight-loss, diabetic aid, and over-all better health. But everything included in
the sweetener propaganda is a lie. The body knows how to process sugar and it is time to
stop filling it with deceiving alternatives.

Sugar, also known as glucose, is a carbohydrate that enters the body and
eventually enters the bloodstream. The liver helps control the blood sugar and keeps
everything balanced. Sugar helps create energy, by building up muscle and fat. The
saying that anything in excess is unhealthy is very true, in this case. Too much sugar
can create too much fat, and high blood pressure.

Due to the bodys negative response to mass amounts of sugar, majorities of

people look for healthier alternatives. Artificial alternatives can come in chemically
sweetened, or naturally sweetened forms. Most artificial sweeteners have a slower
processing rate, but taste a lot sweeter than regular sugar.

The unfortunate thing about these sugar imposters is that they leave the body
empty handed. When artificial sugars are taken in, the brain releases dopamine and leptin,
which waits to let you know when your calorie intake has reached its capacity. Since
these sweeteners bring the taste, and not the carbs to go with it, the body hungers for even

more carbs. It seems like the right move, until it needs more and more. Artificial
sweeteners tell the body that it will be fulfilled, yet leaves it empty.

Both real sugar and artificial sugar have pros and cons. Real sugar provides blood
sugar balance, energy, and has a faster release time. Artificial sugar provides a slower
release time to help those with blood sugar issues, and is not a big carbohydrate filler. On
the other side, real sugar works fast, and can create too many carbs. Other sweeteners do
not fulfill needed energy, and in reality have no complete benefit.

So, when the two-faced packets of artificial sugar sit at your table, consider letting
them down gently. In a healthy diet, there is no need for unnecessary, and empty grains
of sweeteners. Just grab the real deal, molasses-full sugar the next time you go to the
grocery store. Give your body what it is asking for, but watch out for the sugar rush.
