in cooperation with the Applied and Trophic Ecology Research Group, Institute of
Ecology, University of Innsbruck, Austria
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic young scientist to join our
research team on a three-year project investigating the trophic perspective of
ecosystem services provided by carabid beetles. Cutting edge molecular approaches
such as next generation sequencing will be used to examine the different trophicfunctional groups in carabids and the factors underlying potential switches between
weed seed feeding and slug predation.
This PhD position will be part of an Austrian Science Fund project with the same title
(P28578-B25), collaboratively run between Institute of Interdisciplinary Mountain
Research (Innsbruck), the University of Innsbruck (Institute of Ecology) and INRA Dijon,
France.
The PhD position will include the development and application of molecular diagnostics,
field work in Austria and presumably France, bioinformatics and statistical data
analyses and the dissemination of the project findings in the form of research papers
and presentations at scientific meetings as well as the involvement in public relations
work. Co-supervision of master and bachelor students is expected. We offer an exciting
academic and collaborative working environment.
The three-year appointment comes with a yearly gross-salary of 36,340.
The successful candidate holds a Master Degree (or equivalent) in ecology, zoology,
agronomy or a similar field. Interest and/or skills are desired for the following topics:
molecular & community ecology, applied ecology, planning & executing field work,
statistical analyses. The applicant should have the ability to work both independently
and in a team, and to communicate well in written and spoken English.
